"Terri did a fantastic job from beginning to end. She always arrived when she said she would, she was fair and her employee did an outstanding job. He never left a mess to be cleaned. He was attentive and a very good painter. I would hire her for my next painting job. She was delightful to work with."

"Ivan was great to work with. He understood what we needed and helped the crews understand whenever there was an issue. We began with the siding and deck/stairs. The stairs needed some adjustments to be done to our satisfaction. The crew was accommodating to our changes, though there was a bit of a language barrier. We would be happy to use Make a Choice again if needed"

"Regi and his team did a fantastic job staining our deck, power washing our house and repairing a small hole and rotting board in our back patio door. Regi gave great service at a very reasonable price. I’ve already recommended him to neighbors and he’ll be the guy we can when we paint our interior and exterior!"

"My husband and I hired GPS to paint the exterior and interior of our home. After seeing the spectacular work, we decided to have them re-stain our entire back deck and front porch. Phillip is a one-of-a-kind professional. He went above and beyond from day one. He actually cares about his customers and constantly stays in touch to make sure we are getting the best service possible. He made sure he was available at any time of the day for any question we had! LOVE this company and will recommend them to everyone!"

"Very well. I was skeptical at first but Mr Miller put me at ease by sending his information and was very transparent. He said he would be at the location at a specific time, and was. Mr. Miller did a great job staining and keeping me informed of his progress through sending pictures and calling me. I would highly recommend him to anyone and will be using him again for my future projects."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.
