"Mr. Chapman hires subcontractors, in this case a carpenter to do the work. He is open about the amount above the carpenter's fee in the quote and it seems fair."

We offer fabrication and installation of granite, marble, quartz, and other various natural stones. While countertops is our primary service, we offer other various fabrications and installs such as furniture, outdoor patios, etc.

"Cornerstone Granite and Cabinets do mostly good work. Mostly. They put in a new kitchen for my mother. They did not bother to adjust the cabinet doors before they left. They did not bother to finish the job before they left. They told the primary renovation contractor that they were finished and he paid them. Unfortunately, he did not check their work first. He expected honesty. THIS COMPANY TAKES ADVANTAGE OF SENIOR CITIZENS. The owner, Ryan Collins, was in the conversations while there were any. Disgraceful, Dishonorable, Reprehensible, Shameful. After numerous calls, they finally sent someone out SIX MONTHS LATER. He adjusted all of the cabinet doors and some of the drawers, cut a hole in a cabinet for a door that they forgot to do at the factory. The guy said he would be back the next day with the cabinet door and a bunch of the little felt door bumpers. He never showed. The adjustments were made in June 2021. I am writing this in November 2021. The missing cabinet door has NOT been installed. They must know my mother's phone number as well as mine because they do not answer or return our calls."

Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Yes, sanding cabinets before you stain them helps the new stain better adhere to the surface. If you’re adding a darker stain to previously stained wood, you only have to sand them lightly enough to remove any finish and rough up the wood to improve adhesion. On the other hand, if you’re trying to stain wood that is a darker color or that has paint on it, you need to sand down to the original wood, or the color will show through the new stain.

The vinyl finish on thermofoil cabinets makes them durable and scratch-resistant, especially compared to painted cabinets. However, if they do get deep scratches, it can be challenging to fix, and you may be unable to repair them.

You should not clean cabinets with vinegar. While many homeowners think it is a natural cleaner, vinegar is a mild acid, not a degreaser. Since it does not cut through greasy grime, it won't effectively remove it from kitchen cabinets. For best results, use a degreasing cleaner designed for prep work, then rinse and dry thoroughly before sanding.

Refinishing cabinets requires a significant commitment, so even a professional will take between 40 and 120 hours on average to complete a cabinet refinishing project. In most cases, you’re looking at a week or more of work, although this depends on the number of cabinets you have and how many laborers will be working on the project. Whether you’re refinishing cabinets in your kitchen, bathroom, or office, you should plan on the room being at least partially out of commission for one to two weeks. DIY refinishing will usually take a month or two, depending on your expediency.

Yes, remove the old stain on a cabinet before applying a new coat. To do so, clean the cabinet’s exterior with soap, water, and a damp cloth. Then, use sandpaper or an electric sander to remove the old finish. This allows the new coat of stain to soak into the wood fully, lasting longer and creating a richer color.
