"I hate to leave a bad review of any business but my experience as a customer with WB Chimney has been terrible. They did a horrible job on my wood stove install and it's been a major headache and expense getting it fixed. I'll say that I reached out to them multiple times over the course of two weeks before submitting this review but never once got a response. I had a new wood stove and chimney pipe installed by WB chimney 3 years ago. My roof was brand new at the time. They were a relatively new company but seemed friendly. After 2 years, my roof began to leak directly from the stove pipe in the ceiling. After contacting WB Chimney, they recommended scheduling a service call where they could *****. Because the warranty on the stove install was only 1 year, I paid them $150 to come out. The technicians assessed the roof and stove pipe and added some caulking. The whole assessment and "fix" took 10 minutes. This did nothing to solve my water leak problem. After contacting WB Chimney again, they suggested that there was probably an issue somewhere else on the roof, which is making its way in through the stove pipe. Their recommendation was for me to have a roofer assess the problem. I had the company that installed my roof come out to take a look. This is a local company who has an excellent reputation and has been in business for 20 years. The roofers assessment was that the stove pipe had been installed completely wrong and was bound to fail from the beginning. The cheap and easy fix of slapping a bunch of caulk around the holes was about as shoddy a fix as one could do. Not being a roofing expert, I tried to contact WB Chimney to see what they had to say. Of course I never heard anything back. With no other option I paid the roofing company another $850 to re-shingle and re-caulk around the stove piping. This was nearly as much as I'd paid WB in the first place for the install. That solved the issue. After a month of heavy spring rains, I have yet to have another leak or any other problem. Again, I contacted WB Chimney nearly a dozen times to see if they had anything to say. Never received any response! If I were you, I'd take my business elsewhere to a company that knows what they're doing"

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

You should plan on replacing architectural shingles every 20 to 25 years in most cases, although you could see up to around 30 years of useful life. Replacing your roof before it reaches the end of its life is a good idea because it reduces the risk of roof failure and roof leaks, which can contribute to extensive property damage and hefty repair costs. Your shingles’ life span can be shorter if you live in an area that sees a lot of extreme weather, so plan on getting a roof inspection done every few years to identify the best timeline for replacement.

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

Yes, algae-resistant shingles will prevent algae and moss growth, providing double protection for your roof and roof flashing. The copper-infused granules on algae-resistant shingles release copper ions that inhibit plant growth in general, so moss will have a harder time growing on your roof, too. Keep in mind that copper ions flowing off your roof during rainfall can also inhibit plant growth below, so your gardens and grass may be affected.

Ideally, you shouldn’t pay your roofer upfront unless you’re special-ordering materials. However, anything between 10% and 15% of the project’s cost is reasonable to pay upfront. Avoid making a final payment until after the roof gets completed.

A gable roof costs between $13,000 and $30,000, depending on the size of your roof, the materials you use, and the type of gable roof you install. If you’re building a gable roof for new construction or as part of a major home remodel, your pricing will also depend on the type of roof trusses you use, how accessible your property is, and some other factors.
