"I?ve never had Lightning Rods on my home before so I don?t have much to compare it to but he was prompt courteous cleaned up after himself and did everything he promised. For years I?ve handled fire claims for policyholders against insurance companies but I?ve never been to a fire at a location that had Lightning Rods. Just a thought."

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

"All kitchen electrical was upgraded to include a new microwave circuit. The additional room included high ceiling down lights, a ceiling fan, all electrical connections for large screen TV, and wall lighting for paintings. The garage renovation included an additional electrical panel for the workshop and storage area with numerous 110 and 220 outlets for workshop equipment. In addition, exterior lighting was added to the home and workshop with electrical connections for additional HVAC in all these areas. Bruce, the owner, and his staff did an outstanding job. Everyone was courteous, Professional, respectful of our home, timely, and willing to work with us and well as our general contractor. They also cleaned up the work area every day. Some of the best tradesmen that we have ever worked with."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Many wire nuts can accommodate three wires of various gauges; you should check the packaging of the nut to confirm you are buying the correct size. In addition, there are screw terminals that accommodate various numbers of wires; these might also be called “terminal blocks,” and exist to connect multiple wires.

Most new homes have coax outlets in every room. A home can require anywhere from one to five outlets based on how many rooms require internet, cable, or satellite access. If you want to mount your TV on a wall as part of a home renovation, consider installing a new outlet to avoid the need for a splitter or long cable that could slow down speeds.

A 3-prong, 15-amp, 120-volt outlet is standard in the U.S. These have two vertical slots and a U-shaped grounding hole, which suits most home electronics, from televisions to microwaves. Three-pronged outlets are safer than 2-pronged ones, as the third wire, known as the grounding wire, helps prevent shocks and electrical fires.

If wiring in a relatively modern home is damaged due to sudden events like a fire, a tree falling into the house, or a flood, then homeowners insurance is very likely to cover the cost of replacing the wire.

However, if it’s determined that wiring failed or started the fire because of age, neglect, or not meeting current electrical standards, then insurance won’t be covering any replacement. Also, insurance policies may charge more for particularly old kinds of wiring like aluminum wiring or deny applications altogether.

You can certainly talk with electricians about pricing, but the pro has the first and last word on what they charge. If you feel like a quote is too expensive, you can discuss the quotes that other electricians have made and see if they’ll lower their estimate in return. Or you may be able to talk about specific parts of the estimate and how they can be changed.
