"Johnathan called me back immediately. He came and gave me an really good estimate about cleaning my windows inside and out of my house. We had to reschedule a couple of times due to rain. But he did a great job and would highly recommend."

"I have a small shed in the backyard that was built by the last owner. He used mostly the wrong materials and it was almost falling down. I wanted it restored because I wanted to make it a potting shed. Dave quoted me a price that I thought was very reasonable. I’ve used him three times and have never been disappointed. The shed came out very sturdy and all it needs is paint."

"AFS did a great job for us, we had old insulation removed, a drainage system and pump installed, and a crawlspace encapsulation done. John Brandon did the inspection and he did a good job explaining everything and going back and forth with pricing for everything. The crew was Earle Gamble and Noah Cruz and they did a great job, cleaned everything up, and had it all done in 3 days. Would highly recommend!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Most properly installed and maintained windows last between 15 and 20 years. Fiberglass windows last much longer than your average window. Since they don’t warp from temperature changes, rust, or rot, you might be able to hold onto fiberglass windows for up to 40 years. On the other hand, poorly maintained wood windows may only last for a few years.

There are many high-quality window companies on the market, although Andersen, Pella, and Marvin continue to be the most popular nationwide. Some brands, like Sunrise and Soft-Lite, are popular regionally but may not be available in all parts of the United States. When comparing brands, look for features like increased energy efficiency, strong and durable materials, and long-lasting and all-encompassing warranties.

When you need new windows depends on a variety of factors, including the age of your windows, the age of your home, and the climate you live in. If you’re dealing with budget constraints, you don’t need to replace all your windows simultaneously.

When buying new windows, you should consider energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetics to choose the right window for you.

High winds can be harmful to casement windows and all types of windows. Because casement windows can swing outward, high winds could slam the window against the side of the house, bend the hinges, or even rip the window off of the hinges. If you hear some strong gusts outside, it’s best to pull the casement windows shut until it all blows over.

Use a high-quality caulk with silicone around your windows, as it’s waterproof and shrink-proof. Or, you can use a caulk consisting of polyurethane or acrylic if you want to be able to paint over it. Caulk made from silicone is not paintable. Avoid using inexpensive caulk that has a resin or oil base. These caulks will not last long and may shrink and pull away from the window as temperatures go up and down.
