"We had a wonderful experience with Artisan Custom Closets from start to finish. Kimberly was knowledgeable and extremely helpful in getting us everything we wanted in our closet. The installers were great guys and did a fabulous job. I only have good things to say and I would recommend doing business with this company."

"The custom laundry room storage installed in our Suwanee home has made a major improvement. We now have a designated place for detergents, cleaning products, linens, and laundry baskets. The design is simple, attractive, and very functional. The company was easy to reach, answered our questions quickly, and completed the installation on time. The pricing was straightforward, and the finished cabinets look durable and professionally made. We would gladly work with them again."

Reliant works, came in and made great suggestions and quickly and efficiently follow through with this beautiful design that looks professionally done and was established within a few hours. Small jobs welcome

"I asked Bob to give me a quote to repair a back porch door and sunscreen that has fallen off. I also asked him to help with painting my mail box. Bob was very prompt to come by. He gave his estimates and promised to come the next day morning to complete the project. He was on time and did a great job and on budget. I will recommend him again and I am certainly keeping his number in case I need him in future. Great guy to work with and great service. Thank you!"

"Ericks paintings offered a reasonable price and provided high quality services. Recently, the exterior of my house needed to be painted, which included the sidings and decks, Ericks offered a price that was almost 40% lower than the others. They came in exactly as the schedule, and completed the job nicely. The quality of the work was comparable or better than that of other providers."

"Eric at Best Version is my go to guy -- I HIGHLY recommend him to anybody considering a contractor! I found him on Thumbtack to do a renovation after we bought our first home, and I took a chance on him to do a BIG ren. He sanded and refinished 1000+ sq ft of hardwood floors, painted much of my house, and completely redid our kitchen by sanding, stripping, repainting, and adding new hardware + doing the backsplash and installing plumbing. He also worked with some other contractors and even dug me out of some holes they left me in so I could move my family into the new home on time. Every single thing he did was to a high standard and he remained consistent the whole job. Most of all, I found him a CHAMP to work with -- he was fun, good to banter with, and I hired him because I really appreciated the advice and creativity when he first visited. I really trust Best Version -- so much so I've had Eric back in to do more painting, install some lighting, and fix a ceiling leak."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Clean regularly, avoid overloading shelves, and check hardware for wear to ensure longevity.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.

A "reach-in pantry" is a smaller, cabinet-style pantry that allows you to grab items by simply reaching inside. On the other hand, a "walk-in pantry" is like a closet or small room that offers a larger space that you can physically enter to get your food. Walk-in pantries allow for more customizable shelving. A reach-in pantry is usually around 5 feet wide by 2 feet deep, while a walk-in pantry is closer to 5 feet by 5 feet or larger.

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.
