"I hired Neli over a week period for 3 different appliances, my dryer, washing machine, dishwasher, and even kitchen sink! I had a fantastic experience: 1. I fixed my dryer with Thomas' excellent remote guidance, changing the timer and the switch! Fabulous guidance Thomas, with lots of money saved! I learned a lot in the process. 2. I determined that there was no dishwasher leak and in the process learned how to check for leaks and trouble shoot for some common repair issues. It cost $40.00 but as I had some water on the floor, I was ready to get a new dishwasher. Now, I am confident that it wasn't a leak and caused by putting in the dishes in a funny manner and not a repair issue. I am using the dishwasher now again with no problem. 3. I determined with Thomas' help that the washing machine had a major problem and could have spun out of control into my wall....no question, it was time to get a new washing machine! This was a well spent $40.00--I even got Thomas advice on purchasing a new washing machine and what to look for. 4. I checked the drainage on my kitchen sink and learned how to empty out the "trap" and that most likely, I am okay, but what to swap out if I have continuing issues with slow drainage. In the end, I saved lots of money, gaining and learning valuable experience! Absolutely fabulous service!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Start planning your plumbing project by verifying permit requirements with local county offices to avoid resale complications. Confirm your chosen professional holds an active state license. Next, assess your crawl space for moisture and adequate clearance before work begins. For projects requiring a main water shutoff, coordinate early with the Cairo municipal water department. Finally, schedule non-emergency work outside of winter months to avoid contractor shortages after sudden freeze events.

Helpful?

Before starting plumbing work in GA, locate and test all interior shutoff valves. Seized valves turn planned updates into emergencies requiring a municipal meter shutoff. Ensure your crawl space access hatch functions properly and the area remains unflooded. Prepare for unexpected discoveries in older homes, such as outdated cast iron or polybutylene pipes, which alter the project scope. Notify neighbors if your project affects shared water service connections or alleyways.

Helpful?

In Cairo, pipe freeze protection is highly sensitive to shortcuts. Because the region experiences few hard freezes, pipes in crawl spaces lack proper insulation, leading to bursts during winter storms. Crawl space plumbing is also vulnerable because local clay soils expand and contract, stressing underground lines. Ensure proper slope and bedding for drain lines. A licensed contractor will properly install water heaters to handle local mineral buildup safely.

Helpful?

Watch for discolored water and reduced pressure, which indicate internal corrosion in older galvanized pipes. Widespread slow or gurgling drains signal root intrusion or misaligned lines caused by shifting clay soils. Unexplained wet patches in your yard point to underground leaks. In Cairo, schedule plumbing inspections for water heaters over ten years old showing rust. Always book an inspection after any hard freeze to catch hidden damage in under-home pipes.

Helpful?

As homes age in GA, original materials dictate necessary plumbing updates. Pre-1980s homes feature galvanized supply lines that corrode internally over decades, requiring repiping. Homes built between the 1980s and 2000s contain polybutylene pipes, which demand immediate replacement due to sudden failure risks. Mature tree roots in older neighborhoods invade aging sewer laterals. Water heaters also require replacement every eight to twelve years due to heavy mineral buildup.
