"Friendly, efficient and good at what he does. He felled that tree with precision and cleaned up afterward like it wasn't even there. Highly recommend."

"Potter and his crew responded to my request within minutes, stopped by my property first thing the next morning, gave me a quote by lunchtime that same day, and had the job done by the following day. Not only did they do an outstanding job on a very difficult task, they did it in record time and for $1,000 less than the next best bid. Do yourself a favor and hire Potter’s Tree service."

"Mathew and Jean were so professional and kind. I had a tree that was in a difficult area. Mathew said he could cut it down and it would fall in the road. It was amazing! It fell exactly where he said. I would give 10 stars!"

Customers say: Quick response

"We had a future building site cleared and leveled out by G & H Tractor. We found Justin Gillman to be honest, trustworthy and dependable. After the home was built, we called him back for topsoil delivery and distribution for landscaping and drainage purposes. We really liked the follow through that he provided. He would occasionally check in with us to see if anything had settled or if we need any new material brought in. He did not charge us for these check ups. He wanted to make sure that we were totally satisfied, which we were!"

"Affordable tree service did an outstanding job trimming several trees in our yard last week. Their estimate was very fair, they arrived early (unheard of!), and cleaned-up thoroughly afterward. While they were there I asked them to do a number of additional limbs, which they did at reasonable additional cost. Very professional and I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Pruning can impact cold hardiness—but it’s less about the exact temperature and more about temperature variation. Generally, you don’t want to prune trees when there’s a risk of temperatures suddenly dropping from 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below. A tree is most sensitive until 48 hours after it’s pruned.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.
