Because we were so satisfied with their services, we reached out to them once again to take care of our exterior waterproofing and termite problem. As always, their professionalism is above par. "We hired Joe to do a complete bathroom remodel based upon other Angie’s List reviews. Joe did a great job for us! He showed up every day, worked hard, communicated well when there were questions, allowed us to ask questions and worked with us when the bathroom vanity had to be returned and we had to choose another model. He accommodated a question about having more room under the bathroom sink and was in good spirits the entire time. We have plans to call Joe again based upon this experience. He was a pleasure to work with. Hard worker, great skills, kind and fair. Joe’s your man for plumbing and remodeling work!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

As the first layer of water protection for your roof deck and the building materials below, underlayment is designed to prevent water damage, so it’s okay if it gets wet. However, you shouldn’t rely solely on underlayment for protection. If rain interrupts your roof project and you have all of the underlayment down, you’ll likely be fine, but you should install shingles over that layer as soon as possible, as long-term exposure can lead to water damage.

Yes, you can enclose your crawl space. Enclosing your crawl space can promote energy efficiency and reduce the risks of pests and mold by limiting factors like humidity. It can also reduce heat loss, which is why doing so for the winter can make your home more comfortable.

Several factors can impact the cost of waterproofing your basement. Some of the most common cost factors include:

  • Location

  • Square footage

  • Cause of the water leak

  • Type of foundation

  • Accessibility

  • Waterproofing method

  • Materials

  • Contractor experience and availability

  • Engineering reports, if needed

  • Structural and other repairs

  • Permits

Regular inspections, maintaining proper grading around the foundation, and keeping gutters clear are advisable. Vapor barriers and sealants may need checking for wear after several years.

Sandbags are the most common and efficient way to create a flood barrier at home. Some local authorities pass them around to homes before the risk of a flood. Otherwise, you can use flood-proof house materials, like burlap or woven plastic bags, to make sandbags and fill them with sand or cat litter. Make sure that when you stack them, they’re tightly laid on top of each other, creating the effect of a firm wall against accumulating water.
