"Charles came with two sons. He had injury to his left foot just a few days before I contacted him. He came with crutches and supervised his sons. All three are very polite. They turned off every light and locked the doors every day before they left, unlike my general contractor and builder who frequently left the lights on and door unlocked, even one time they left with the key in the dead bolt. I didn't tell Charles and sons to lock the doors and turned off the lights, they did it with their professional ethic. They also notified me the numerous defects done by my builder- the most important one being the leak from the spigot pipe causing water under my bed room's floor. I contacted Charles to repaint the interior and repair the ugly area of wall in prominent view which had been repaired by my builder and his worker six times and still ugly and also the painting was patchy. Charles and his sons corrected all. I am very pleased with them."

"He did an amazing job on our backsplash which is a very unusual porcelain tile that looks like large stones. It continues above the range up to the crown molding. He was very reasonable and this young man is of very good character."

"I am new to the area, and we bought a new home. We had bare walls and my husband and I did not want the hassle of painting ourselves. I looked into home advisor just to see if I would get any help or call backs. Within the hour, Mr. Blaine called and was able to come THAT evening to give me a quote. He was able to do the work the following Monday. His son and himself showed amazing professionalism, with great customer service. Mr. Blaine and his son were very friendly and did their job thorough and quick. I was impressed. My living room wall looks gorgeous! I want to add shiplap next and I already have them scheduled to do it!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

You shouldn't paint a metal fence. Painting doesn't necessarily damage a corrugated metal fence, but these types of fences are meant to flex, and paint can easily chip and break off. Latex paints can address this issue, but those tend not to be very weather-resistant. Certain paints can trap moisture in the corrugation, which can rust the metal and lead to corrosion. And finally, if you paint a copper fence, it won't patina, which is one of the main reasons people buy copper.

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

DIY is possible with proper tools and knowledge, but professionals can ensure even application and high-quality results, saving time and hassle.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.
