"Phillip was a pleasure to work with, he knows the correct ways to fix carpet problems, communicate the how and why of the proposed fixes and comes equipped with all the tools and supplies necessary to not only to fix the carpet but to move any furniture needed to effect the repairs. He performed three separate tasks for me; all were performed correctly and efficiently. The tasks were: 1. He re-attached the carpet at the base of our stairs after a new Newel post and handrail was installed. 2. He re-stretched the carpet in our family room with had a ripple. Phillip stretches carpet the correct way using a carpet stretcher and not a knee kicker like most carpet installers use. He rightly said that using a knee kicker does not stretch the carpet enough and injures the knees of the installer. 3. He fixed a problem in our guest bedroom where the carpet was rubbing against the sliding closet door, causing the carpet to ware and fray and the door to be hard to open. The problem was caused by improper installation. First the original installers used too thick a pad under the carpet and then they compounded the problem by not stretching the carpet tight enough."

"Roger has some serious equipment that works wonders. He got my Berber carpet cleaner than the big national brand ever did. And his steam equipment made quick work of the project - done in 1/2 an hour. I'm so glad I found him."

"The gentlemen did an excellent job installing our new carpet! We want to sell our home and needed timely installation. Stewart made sure to get the job finished within the timeframe we asked. The price was much lower than the quote we received from another company. The product was better as well. They did an outstanding job. Definitely hire them!"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.

Carpet installers use furniture sliders or blankets to protect your furniture during the installation process. They handle each piece with care to minimize the risk of damage. Additionally, they may employ techniques such as lifting and shifting furniture rather than dragging it across the floor to prevent scratches or other marks. If you have particularly delicate or heavy items that need to be moved, discuss special handling with the installers beforehand.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

Carpet is an effective natural insulator, so it will make a room slightly warmer than laminate. The material’s insulating properties also make carpeted rooms more efficient for temperature regulation.
