"It was at night of course, I had come home to a hot house. I called Service Star because of their rating and the fact they list their hours of operation as 24/7. I was given an appointment time, but they were a bit late. In their defense this was the first really hot day of the new summer season in Florida, so all AC companies were fielding a bunch of calls. Overall it went great. The technician arrived, diagnosed and fixed the problem in just a few minutes - he was very professional and knowledgeable. He then looked over my system and gave me a quote on a new system. My system was clearly leaking Freon, so the service call bought me enough time to research and choose a replacement unit. I would have had Service Star do the new system, but they carry Rheem, and I did not want a Rheem unit."

"They are very thorough and efficient. The work was done quickly and prices were affordable, but what I like most was how kind they were. They took time and explained the repairs to me, so that I understood what I was paying for."

Humidifier Repair questions, answered by experts

The life expectancy of a humidifier is around ten years on average, but this can vary depending on factors such as usage, maintenance, and the quality of the unit. To help your humidifier last as long as possible, it's important to regularly follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance.

During your HVAC preseason maintenance call, your contractor will inspect the system for any problems and make small adjustments for better efficiency. Tasks include, though are not limited to:

  • Changing filters

  • Checking the thermostat

  • Clearing away dust and debris

  • Checking for mold

  • Inspecting electrical elements

  • Inspecting condensate lines and drain

  • Cleaning evaporator coils

  • Ensuring ignition function

While you can do some of these services yourself, hiring a professional to keep HVAC equipment running can be helpful. These experts know what to look for and may be able to spot potential issues before they become problems. Many HVAC companies offer annual maintenance plans.

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers are actually quite similar, though they perform different jobs. Dehumidifiers reduce moisture in the air, while air conditioners work to cool the home. A good central AC unit will naturally perform a certain level of dehumidification due to its design, but it will not be able to handle excessive levels of moisture.

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is not legally required for HVAC technicians in most areas, but hiring a professional with this certification is highly recommended. NATE-certified technicians demonstrated their expertise and proficiency in different types of HVAC systems, offering assurance of quality service. It's a voluntary certification, yet it indicates a commitment to professionalism and ongoing training. Choosing a NATE-certified technician often means you're working with someone who is up-to-date on industry standards and best practices, which can lead to better service, energy efficiency, and long-term cost savings.

While you’re busy swapping out that old compressor, now is a great time to have your furnace cleaned and serviced , especially if your home is older and your heating system is as old as your AC unit. Likewise, it’s a good idea to clean your air ducts to ensure air flows properly through the house.
