"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Bob was super. When he came out to give an estimate, he thoroughly explained about different types of skylights, gave several options, and did not pressure me to make a decision. He was prompt, courteous and a true professional! Love my skylight as does everyone who visits. Great job, Bob!"

"Proformance Roofing was an absolute pleasure to work with. They responded to our call the day of and provided us with information and pricing of repairs needed. Frank and Dustin were in constant contact with my wife and I during the whole process. I was extremely impressed with their professionalism, work ethic and honesty during our job. Not only were the two owners in constant contact with us they took it up another level when they came out to complete the repair job themselves. Most of all I was impressed with the time they spent with me afterwards explaining how they repaired our issues and physically showing me. These guys went above and beyond in every "category" they were extremely prompt and were on the job early when the day came for the repair to be done. Frank and Dustin treated us like we were their family. Proformance Roofing will be the only roofing company we ever use or recommend from here on out. We've never been so pleased with a company and their ownership like this before. A+++"

"Everyone at Solar Shield was very nice and professional. We had a few concerns when the moisture barrier was installed and we still had rain in our bedroom. Frank got it corrected the next day, and finished the roof the following week. The good news: very nice looking roof with no more leaks. The bad news: we got pictures of the hurricane straps installed and had the roof inspected by our insurance company. They found that the hurricane straps installed were not up to their standards and neither was the moisture barrier. They also found multiple slats (we didn’t have decking that covered the whole roof - old house) that were split and compromised during the work, so we were unable to qualify for any insurance discounts. Overall, we have a nice looking roof - top of the line from Solar Shield Industries. Hopefully, it will last a lifetime. But unfortunately, we have some decking remediation that needs to be done and we still need hurricane straps, which will probably be clips now. Not a big enough deal for me to raise a stink. I can retro clips and repair the few decking issues from the attic & under siding. And apparently, the moisture barrier is just not what the insurance company accepts as a “moisture barrier.”"
All of the doors and windows were replaced by National HomeCraft.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Skylights increase natural light, improve ventilation, and enhance aesthetic appeal in rooms.

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.
