Customers say: Quality work

"My wife and I wanted to let you know that our kitchen transformation went extremely well, We are completely satisfied on every level. Mauro, the owner, is a visionary in being able to orchestrate every detail into exceeding our expectations. He thoroughly explained our options while constantly making sure as to what we could expect during the process. He communicates very well and always made himself available to answer any questions or concerns we had along the way. Mauro is a perfectionist and very meticulous in his work. He and his team showed up to work and he never left us dangling like other horror stories we have heard. We highly recommend Vera Custom Woodworking for your next project big or small. Mauro Vera is a man of integrity. You will not be disappointed. Should you have any questions, I would be happy to respond at [email protected]"

Small jobs welcome

"Arran Scrivens is very personal, professional, responsive, calm and great with follow-through. From the beginning of the project, which was a pretty extensive kitchen remodel plus, he listened and offered suggestions. The time allotted for this project was tight, but Arran told me he would do everything he could to meet the deadline. He often had many trades there at the same time, including weekends, which truly impressed me. Anytime I reached out to him, he responded. As this can be a stressful time for both the homeowner and contractor alike, Arran never got upset, or at least never showed it. His calm and confident demeanor made me feel very comfortable. AND, the end product was absolutely beautiful. Arran paid attention to all the details and made sure literally EVERYTHING I wanted tweaked got done until I was completely satisfied. I would HIGHLY recommend Scrivens Construction. The owner is a real class act and the quality of their work is top-notch!"

"The project was to remove a buried cement fish pond that had been buried decades ago by previous owners. The area of the lawn where the buried pond was would not grow grass well and did not drain after rain because whoever buried it did not break up the concrete or put holes in it so the water would drain. We thought it was a shallow pond a foot or two deep. They were going to dig it out by hand, but discovered it was over 4 feet deep at the shallow end and 7 feet deep at the deep end. What originally was going to be a quick simple project turned into a 3 week project and required excavator equipment to remove the old cement which was reinforced with rebar. Cameron kept us informed and got the job done even with all the challenges. We are happy with the result and would recommend MorgranCraft and would hire again for other projects."

"Hired Roman to fix some wood rot for me and he was able to handle the project within 24 hours of being contacted. Not only did he complete the project I gave him, but also went above and beyond and painted the new wood as well as caulked and sealed for no additional charge. Would not hesitate to use Roman again for any project big or small in the future!"

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

While you may have heard people use millwork and carpentry interchangeably, they aren’t the same. Millwork is a type of carpentry, which means that carpentry isn’t always millwork. You can tell millwork apart from other types of carpentry because it’s manufactured at a mill. Notably, casework is also confused with millwork. Casework is different because it refers to boxes like cabinets and bookshelves.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

On average, the cost to hire a carpenter ranges from about $75 to $100 per hour, depending on the type of carpentry, location, size of the job, and skill level of the carpenter. Get quotes from at least three carpenters in your area to determine the best price for your specific project.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.
