"Sean is a very professional and pleasant person who bent over backwards to get my carport secured immediately! Sean also went the extra mile to clean out my gutters while he fixed the carport. I am also having him replace the damaged metal this next week. I couldn't be happier with Cornerstone's service."

"Steven is a one man show. He performed the many tasks we proposed to him with efficiency and too notch quality. He found answers for every repair we gave him. He even repaired a few things without charging us extra money for them. This young man, who has a pleasant personality, is a go getter. He cleaned all the areas where repairs took place, even mopping at times. We found out that Steven also does remodeling etc. We really needed to get these repairs completed quickly and Steven contacted us immediately. We highly recommend Steven to all thise who may need his services. Thank you Steven for jobs well done."

"Paul responded promptly to my request for service. He came out right away to address a door that wouldn't;t close properly. Turned out he needed to take the latch keeper back to his shop to file it down and voila! the door stays closed now! I am very happy with the fix, the price and the excellent service overall!"

Mailbox Repair questions, answered by experts

Regularly check and tighten screws, avoid excessive weight, and clean surfaces with appropriate materials to prevent damage.

If your couch is damaged, you are not out of options. You might try fixing it on your own, bring in a furniture repair specialist, or opt to get rid of it responsibly. Depending on its condition, you could donate, sell, recycle, or drop it off at a local scrap facility.

If you don’t want to purchase furniture sliders, there are several household items that can be used as makeshift sliders. Thick towels or blankets placed under furniture legs can reduce friction and make it easier to slide the furniture without causing damage to the floor. Additionally, plastic or paper plates can be placed under each leg for easy sliding. You can also cut up pieces of a cardboard box to slide beneath the legs of the furniture.

Fixing a drawer that is sticky, askew, or broken depends on the specific problem. Start by removing the drawer and examining the slides and tracks for any damage, bent parts, or loose hardware.

For minor issues:

  • Clean and Lubricate: If the slides are just sticky, clean them and the corresponding tracks with a hot, damp cloth. Then, apply a lubricant like silicone spray or bar soap to help them glide smoothly. Also, check any roller wheels for problems.

  • Tighten Screws: Tighten any loose screws on the slides and tracks. If screw holes are stripped, you may need to fill them and re-drill.

For more significant damage:

  • Bent Hardware: If a slide is bent, you may be able to remove it, straighten it out, and reinstall it.

  • Broken Parts: If a slide or track is broken or severely damaged, it will need to be replaced. Unscrew the damaged part and install a replacement that matches the type and size of the original.

After performing the repair, reinsert the drawer and test it to ensure it opens and closes smoothly, making any final adjustments for proper alignment. It can also be helpful to consult the manufacturer's guidelines for your specific drawer system.

When deciding whether to repair, reupholster, or replace old furniture, consider its age, quality, level of wear, and overall value, including sentimental attachment. In many cases, it is more affordable to reupholster or repair furniture than to replace it, especially for antique, vintage, or discontinued pieces.

Older furniture is often made from durable hardwoods like oak and maple, giving it a longer lifespan than newer furniture, which frequently uses lower-quality materials such as plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Because of this, repairing or reupholstering a well-made older piece is often a worthwhile investment.

To determine the best course of action from a financial perspective, compare quotes from local furniture repair services with the price of a new, similar piece. Reupholstery may not be cost-effective for furniture that was originally inexpensive (e.g., under $300). For high-quality or sentimental items, however, it is an excellent way to preserve the piece and extend its life. If you're unsure, a furniture reupholstery specialist can help you evaluate the piece and make an informed decision.
