"I initially hired Larry to paint the exterior of my home. Larry and his friend Matt did such an amazing job prepping, repairing and painting the exterior of my home that I had them replace 2 exterior doors, install outside porch lights, repair a set of interior french doors, add baseboard and trim to my bonus room and to top it all off, build a ramp for my 10x20 shed. They are an amazing team and I could not be any happier with their work. They are very affordable, trustworthy, dependable, neat and tidy with cleaning up after their work and very hard workers. They went above and beyond my expectations and I highly recommend their services. They truly are an A-Z Handyman."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Yes, if your roof is in stable condition, you should be able to hang Christmas lights from the eaves. Hang Christmas light directly from the eaves for best results, using light clips or an alternative type of adhesive. When installing lights on your eaves, be sure to work carefully and avoid adding too much weight or pressure to them.

The length of time shouldn’t matter much if you stick with lightweight Christmas lights and similar decorations. Those shouldn’t pose risks to your stucco. You should avoid attaching anything to your stucco that could fall because it’s too heavy, which may take part of the stucco with it. Some methods, like using double-sided tape or adhesive hooks, will naturally wear out over time and lead to falling lights, so don’t expect to leave these lights up year-round.

Repairing a strand of Christmas lights will save you a few dollars and the hassle of going to the store to purchase new ones. That may or may not be enough to make fixing them worth it to you. However, if the lights are already hanging or around the tree, removing and replacing them is far more time-consuming than performing a quick repair job.

A blinking, or twinkle, bulb makes Christmas lights blink. Usually, this type of bulb has a silver or red tip, making it easily distinguishable from other non-blinking bulbs. Most packages of Christmas lights come with additional blinking and non-blinking bulbs. Additional bulbs can be purchased at a hardware store or online retailer.

Yes, you must use an extension cord specifically rated for outdoor use to power outdoor lights, such as Christmas lights. Extension cords intended for indoor use lack the protective properties to withstand exposure to outdoor elements. To safely hang and power lights outside your house or in your yard, always connect them to an outdoor power source using an outdoor-rated extension cord.
