"My salesman, Dillon did a great job. He was here when he said he would be and I was set. The three separate times the crew was here to remove the canopies was excessive, as they didn’t plan for the need of three persons or a large ladder. Third time was the charm. The quality is unquestionably pristine. Because of removal scheduling my canopies were not completed and installed on schedule, as initially promised. A little disappointing it was a month over due, but not the end of the world. The crew was kind and impressive throughout. I highly recommend this company. Just set job expectations up front. They look amazing on the house too."

"Showed up when called to access the situation and try to repair manual crank hurricane shutter. The gear box was frozen.
After 2 hours and several attempt decided need more parts. And needed to work from outside with ladders. Did not charge mefor this trip. Estimated $450 to complete job with aid of another worker. After further discussion we decided that an electric motor would solve the problem. Agreed to add new motor and install for$600. Showed up early and finished ithin 4 hours with 2 men installing and fixing the shutter."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

It’s not a good idea to allow heavy rain to fall on your awning, as puddling can occur and overload the awning. Your awning should be able to handle a light rain, though you should allow it to dry out before retracting it or open it to dry as soon as the rain stops. As always, consult manufacturer guidelines for using and caring for your awning.

If you're handy, it might be worth trying to install retractable awnings yourself. Just keep in mind that motorized retractable awnings require much more know-how, and the risk of something costly going wrong (such as damaging your new awnings) is higher.

Mechanical awnings should be easy to install for the average person with some handyman skills.

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.

Yes, you can replace just the fabric on an awning without having to replace the entire awning frame and hardware. This process will take a professional about one to two hours. If you want to DIY, it could take longer, especially for large or retractable awnings. Replacing the fabric on an awning can improve the look of your home and help naturally cool your interior and exterior spaces.

It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.
