"Very respectful and pleasant to work with. Had overgrown bushes and shrubs trimmed. Very fast work in hot weather. Cleanup could be better. I'll be picking out the clippings from the bushes and raking for a while. Was unable to trim all of the top of a very large bush that the pole trimmer or saw couldn't reach. Over all I'm pleased with the work and would hire again."

"We would highly recommend Woods Tree Service. Ashley was very responsive, professional and accommodating. We had a dead pine tree (a victim of pine beetles ð ¢) in our small fenced backyard. We were able to immediately schedule an appointment for an estimate and received a quote the next day. The guys showed up on time and were very friendly and conscientious. Our tree removal was extremely difficult due to the height of the tree 60â + and itâ s proximity to our house and our fence. Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree. 

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.
