"After checking the thermostat, air handler, and the compressor it was determined that the system had 'blown out' the refrigerant. Not to worry, he located where the leak was - it was at the very bottom of the compressor unit surrounded by the coils. He cut power, removed the fan motor, and all but crawled-in to clean and repair the hole found in the copper line; he evacuated the system after a thorough purge and refilled the refrigerant when done. AMAZING! Efficient. Professionally prepared to complete the job. Pleased? YOU BET! Cornerstone has the CREAM OF THE CROP of professional, knowledgeable and courteous service technicians!"

"A medical need suddenly required us to purchase a deep freezer. Inexplicably, there were no outlets in our utility room so the freezer was temporarily in our dining room. This had to change! Also, we had recently purchased a new ceiling light so the timing was good to bundle up these electrical projects.
We contacted John, from Aarrow Electrical. He gave a verbal quote over the phone and, although he had a busy schedule, he worked to fit us in relatively quickly. Given our medical storage need, I appreciated this.
He and his apprentice arrived on time and worked at a brisk pace. They kept me informed of my options and followed through on my requests. The GFI outlet was quickly installed with no problems. The ceiling light required a bit more work but they removed the old light, installed a new junction box, quick-patched the old location and installed a new light. The installation was tricky but they were patient and the new light looks great.

Project took less than 50 minutes to complete. I will definitely hire United Electrical Solutions again to replace the remainder of my ceiling fans and ceiling light fixtures throughout the house."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
