"I did quite a bit of research before hiring. Was refered to Phipps Masonry & Stucco for a masonry project and was delightfully surprised by the estimate. A fraction of the price of other contractors. I had a bad leak and they fixed it and put new mortar in my chimney all in a day. Fast workers and easy communication. I'm hiring them to fix some stucco on the side of my house next"

"Hired Landa Exteriors for a second time. Siding repair, window reframing and complete re-painting of entire exterior of home. They did an absolutely incredible job. So much so that our neighbors hired them too!"

"The project went incredibly well from start to finish. The salesman, Brian, was responsive, professional, and super easy to work with. Most notable are three things. Firstly, Brian nailed the estimate. When it came time to do the work, I never once received a change order or request for more more money. This is highly impressive on a project with so many variables and unpredictable obstacles. It isn't that obstacles didn't come up, it was that the crew just worked through them as they did. Secondly, the estimate was very reasonable. Fortunately, my house is literally a rectangular cube without much architectural interest. Nonetheless, I was happy with the price. Thirdly, the crew was awesome. A tight nit group of three guys who work incredibly well together. Add another guy to that crew, and he'd just be in the way. Anyone who has ever managed teams will appreciate the efficiency and good humor with which these guys work. They showed up on time every day. They worked while they were there. They asked questions when they had them. They tended to the details at the end of the project. They genuinely wanted things to go well and look great. And the result was better than I could have imagined. The house went from being an 80's stucco nightmare with rotting siding, to being a great little cottage-y looking place. For me, this was a big project. Plenty could have gone south. Nothing did. It's the kind of experience you hope for, but rarely have. I'd recommend these guys all day long."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can screw directly into stucco. Only do so if the item you are installing is a permanent fixture. Drill a pilot hole into the stucco using a masonry or concrete bit, then drive in the screw with a power drill or screwdriver.

Cracks, discoloration, and moisture intrusion often indicate necessary repairs.

Neutral colors like white, tan, beige, and light brown are the most popular stucco colors. Natural stucco has a grayish color due to the high concentration of Portland cement in the material, but most homeowners have their contractors add pigments to create a more inviting appearance. Stucco is most popular in hotter climates, where it provides ample insulation to regulate interior temperatures and keep the solar heat out. Since lighter colors reflect more sunlight, lighter stucco is more prevalent.

The length of time shouldn’t matter much if you stick with lightweight Christmas lights and similar decorations. Those shouldn’t pose risks to your stucco. You should avoid attaching anything to your stucco that could fall because it’s too heavy, which may take part of the stucco with it. Some methods, like using double-sided tape or adhesive hooks, will naturally wear out over time and lead to falling lights, so don’t expect to leave these lights up year-round.

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.
