"They were professional and showed up on the day of to deliver the quote for my blinds. Paid the deposit and scheduled the install. On 01/21, the day of the install 2 of the blinds were defective. They wouldn't go all the way down. They assured me that they would order replacements for those and that I would keep the defective ones until then. Reached out to them on 03/24 for an update since I hadn't heard back. Was told that we were waiting on the manufacturer to get the replacement blinds. Replacements didn't arrive until 7/19. They came out to install the replacements and at that time, I find out only I of the replacements arrived out of the 2. The replacement blinds were having the same issues of not going all the way down. At this point another set of blinds was having a different issue. It looked like it was warped, and I sent them the photos to get that replaced. The blinds are supposed to have a 3-year warranty. I have been having to reach out for any updates and the issue isn't fixed."

Window Screen Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can fix windows without replacing them. However, this will depend on the severity of the issue and what your needs are. Minor water damage, broken glass, damaged casing, and worn caulking are usually easy repairs. But if there is excessive damage, the windows are constantly foggy, or the windows are very old, it’s best to consider replacing them. Replacement windows cost between $575 and $1,475 per window, or an average of $850 per window.

The steps to replace a retractable screen can vary, but these are the general steps: First, remove the screen cover to expose the screen mechanism and remove the clip that holds the screen in place. Next, depress the end of the screen mechanism so it releases from the door frame. Take your new screen and fit one end into the frame. You may need to rotate the mechanism to engage the spring before inserting the other end into the frame. Finally, pull the screen down the length of the door’s opening and lock it in place with the clip.

If you’re not an experienced DIYer, consider hiring a local patio repair contractor to rescreen your porch or sunroom. Unless you’re only repairing a small rip or hole, this project is not an easy job. A professional can also make recommendations for materials that will work best for your porch.

If your winter looks like heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures, taking your screens out for the season can be a great way to avoid mesh damage or bent frames. Ice can build up and put pressure on the screen, especially in older or aluminum frames. Removing them also lets in more natural light during those shorter winter days and makes it easier to keep your windows clean. In warmer climates, it’s less about protection and more about preference. Some homeowners like the clearer view while others leave them in for convenience. Either way works—it depends on your setup and what you value more.

Yes, you can absolutely put a screen on a casement window, and most casement windows come with screens. Unlike with a double-hung, single-hung, or sliding window, the screen in a casement window sits on the inside of the window so that the sash can freely open outward. Screens are especially important for casement windows because the large window opening the window provides leaves your home more open to bugs and outside debris than most other types of operable windows.
