There are several downsides to choosing casement windows for your home. Firstly, casement windows can cost significantly more than standard windows—especially if you need to install custom windows. If you plan on installing window AC units, then casement windows aren’t the best option, as it can be difficult to fit an AC unit into windows that open sideways or outwards. 

The hinges on casement windows also pose a higher risk for break-ins, as rust and wear and tear can make the hardware easier for burglars to break into.

There are a few reasons your crank windows might not close. First, determine if your window crank is working properly and opening and closing the window when you turn it. If it’s not, the crank may need replacing, cleaning, or lubricating. Another reason your windows aren’t closing could be dirt and debris in the window hinges or sash. Finally, make sure your window lock operator is set in the unlocked position and isn’t blocking the window from fully closing. Bay windows and garden windows differ in both size and window angle. Garden windows are smaller than bay windows and extend from the house at 90-degree angles, creating a box-like shape. Bay windows, often much larger than garden windows, consist of three windows set at 25- to 45-degree angles to jut out from your home.

Your new windows may let in more noise than your old windows because they are not the right size or they were installed improperly. Improper installation, or choosing windows that are too small for the opening, can create gaps around the window that let in noise.

Another factor could be the STC and OITC ratings. If your new windows have lower ratings than your old windows, this means they have lower performance when it comes to dampening noise from the outdoors.
