"I don’t usually write reviews, but my experiences with NCG Landscape & Lawn Maintenance were so exceptional that I felt compelled to share. I have been utilizing them for the past 3 years for all of my landscaping needs. The earlier jobs were smaller – installing French drains, etc. However, the job just completed was vey large. I had all of my sod replaced, old landscaping torn out and over 100 plants installed, and my irrigation system overhauled. Their team was incredible. All of them were extremely knowledgeable and hard working as well as polite and personable. Morné is the most responsive company owner I’ve ever dealt with. He would respond after hours and on weekends. He was always on top of things. I strongly recommend them for all your landscaping needs. I honestly don’t think that you will be able to find anyone better!!"

"I was randomly shopping around and went on Angie's list. No sooner was someone was at my door offering their services, I was extremely shocked. The owner of the company came across so professional and honest that I hired them on the spot. They worked hard to get my front yard looking lush and perfectly green, and this was done in a day!! They went above and beyond to install a new timer, fixed damages on all the sprinklers and added grass to a section that I didn't even know needed it. I am beyond impressed with the results! From the initial consultation to the final touches, their professionalism and expertise shone through every step of the process. The team worked diligently to ensure that the sod was installed perfectly and that has completely transformed the look of my home. Not only did they deliver exceptional quality work, but they also provided top-notch customer service. I highly recommend G.S Landscape to anyone looking to enhance their outdoor space!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Treating dry soil can bring back a dormant lawn, but not a dead one. After nurturing a dry lawn back to proper moisture levels, you should closely observe whether your grass revives with the soil. If not, you may need to reseed your lawn or start fresh with new turf.

Overseeding typically involves spreading grass seed either manually or with a machine that sprays the grass seed out and onto the soil. With overseeding, the grass seeds sit on the soil, and some may fall deeper into the soil if you aerated beforehand. With power seeding, a machine cuts narrow rows into the soil and pushes the grass seeds directly into the soil.

If your lawn and general landscape are struggling, consider calling a local landscape specialist to suggest lawn amendments, local plants, and hardscape changes to boost the long-term health of your outdoor space. While you may be able to take on small projects yourself—such as reseeding your lawn or testing the soil—a professional can help you build a plan to bring a struggling yard back to life quickly.

The best time to plant grass seed depends on your local climate and whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass.

For cool-season grasses (like tall fescue), the ideal time to seed is late summer or early fall (typically August and September). During this period, the soil is still warm from the summer, but the air is cooler, creating optimal conditions for germination and root establishment before winter. There is also less competition from weeds. Spring is a secondary option, but cooler soil temperatures, the risk of a late frost, and less time for the grass to mature before summer heat can make it less successful.

For warm-season grasses (like St. Augustine), the best time to plant is from late spring through mid-summer (typically May and June), when temperatures are consistently between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

In general, it is best to avoid seeding during winter or early spring, as cold soil and air can prevent seeds from germinating. For recommendations tailored to your specific grass type and climate, consider consulting a local lawn care professional.

Adding seed to existing grass is often known as overseeding, as opposed to reseeding. Reseeding refers to the process of filling in bare or dying patches of lawn—or in some cases, full lawns—whereas reseeding supports existing lawns to prevent thinning. Overseeding is an ideal annual lawn care practice for grass fighting drought, disease, weeds, or pest issues.
