"Very well. The removal of old plantings was done quickly and removal of all debris and site clean-up was quick and thorough. The new plantings are much more appropriate for the house and property. The accent lighting is very attractive and the sprinkler system is working like new and keeping the new plants alive. I am looking forward to the replacement of the concrete driveway with pavers later this month. This is the last phase of the work requested."

"Please don't hesitate to use ECO-LIVING! They do so many different projects and all turn out just perfectly. We needed a wooden fence. Ours fell down during the hurricane that we had last year. This fence is absolutely gorgeous. It's board on board. It was done in a short amount of time. Neighbors are already jealous. As they should be the workmanship with just perfect. I know that this fence is going to last a long time. They used pressure treated wood cement to make sure that the 4x4 stay in place. It's just fantastic. They have other products the one on the block that sparkles. Just get in touch with them and you'll see what I'm talking about. Professionalism, and great great customer service."

"They put the sealer down, but it rained & washed a lot of it off. I called and they came right back out and did the job again with no hesitation. Their guys were very friendly and acted like they were happy to do the work. I appreciated their pleasantness and customer service."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.
