"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

Nick the owner was very professional and clearly explained the stages of the project and was able to work with the pricing points that I could commit to. "I hired Clayton to repair the crumbling stucco on my garage wall and to reframe some of the areas of my garage. Not everyone that does stucco work can do carpentry, most of the other people that came out to see my house couldn't even give me an initial quote because they subcontracted out that portion You're not going to get bottom barrel prices from Clayton because he pays his workers a fair rate, he was not the cheapest but he was definitely not the most expensive . I found his prices to be pretty reasonable, even though I was in another state entirely I trusted Clayton and he got the work done. He notified me of additional damage- crumbling window sills and cracked windows, and again gave me a fair price to get the work done. He is proactive and definitely knows what he is doing. I intend to use him again. I will enclose photos once I can figure out this new platform"

"Shed movers exceeded our expectations. Tim had so much knowledge and ideas as to what size would work best for our needs. After we placed our shed order, It became necessary to request a later than expected delivery date, Tabitha was very gracious, and and understanding. Prior to this - we realized we better change the trim color, called and the owner Ron answered, he made sure that happened for us. What a Super Group of people. The delivery people were very polite, professional. It is as if they can't do enough to ensure you are totally pleased with your decision. The guarantee they stand by for their product, is I believe quite rare these days. I just could not imagine shopping anywhere else for the products they offer. Thank you Shed Movers."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

A construction manager is particularly useful in the case of a large-scale build with custom design elements, so it’s usually worth it to hire one. They can help manage your budget, maintain quality control, oversee timelines, and navigate unexpected hurdles. While construction managers are pricey, they can actually save money in the long run by identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring the project stays within budget.

On average, the cost of a home builder is about $150 per square foot, but that price can range from around $100 to $400 per square foot or more. That puts the typical price range of a standard, 2,000-square-foot house between $200,000 and $800,000. Some factors that affect the price of hiring a home builder include the following:

  • Location of your home and the living cost in the area

  • Type of foundation and framing you choose

  • Quality of the building materials

  • Footprint and layout of the house

  • Number of stories

  • Builder’s experience

Handypeople usually don’t hold trade licenses, so they typically aren’t qualified to tackle projects involving installing or making alterations to plumbing or electrical lines. Below are some jobs that a handyperson usually won’t be able to complete:

  • Installing plumbing for a new kitchen or bathroom

  • Replacing plumbing pipes

  • Installing or repairing septic systems

  • Running new electrical wiring

  • Installing a subpanel

One of the best ways to negotiate with a homebuilder is to forgo price reductions. Instead, negotiate over upgrades and incentives, as many builders are more willing to go down that road than to decrease their own fee. Even if they were willing to take a cut, a reputable homebuilder often knows their worth, so a willingness to negotiate could be a red flag. Beyond that, builders are typically willing to negotiate closing costs instead of offering a discount on the base price.

The average build timeline for a home is between six and 12 months, with timelines pushing toward the upper end of that range if you’re creating a custom design or need a lot of land preparation before getting started. Hiring a general contractor or a custom homebuilder will help speed up the process, as you’ll see fewer delays between different parts of the build process getting done.
