"Chris is very professional, friendly, and talented. Chris is much more than a stump grinding service. In addition to effectively grinding huge palm tree stumps, he met us at the nursery and helped us select palm tree replacements and delivered and handled the entire installation process. He further graded large sections of our property and applied sod to finish the job. Chris arrives on time and did everything that he said that he would do and was an overall pleasure to work with."

"Bob has completed several renovations in my condo over the last few years. I consider myself to be fortunate to have found him on Angie’s List. I found him to be courteous, professional and well-skilled—all at a fair price. I felt confident that he would do a good job as soon as I met him. I hope he will continue to be available for future jobs."

"I told Scott what items needed to be hauled and we agreed on a price and time. He arrived when he said he would, loaded up, and was finished in no time. I didn't have to do a thing to do except write the check. He was friendly, professional, and I would use his company again."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.

Trenches are typically 12 to 24 inches deep and 8 inches wide. However, the required depth depends on the specific project and local ordinances. For example, a French drain may need to be 18 inches deep, while a water pipe might require a depth of 24 inches and a drainage pipe 36 inches. Your city or county may have specific regulations, so it's wise to consult with an excavation professional to determine the correct depth for your project.

Yes, you can install a trench drain if you already have concrete in your yard or garden. While it can complicate some aspects of the job and slightly run up the cost, it is doable. Residential trench drains can be easily retrofitted to outdoor areas with concrete without having to remove excessive amounts of your patio, pool area, or decorative walkways.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.
