Larry helped me plan my driveway reconstruction after terrible hurricane damage, and did the grading work as well as the work to lay down the material we used to restore the driveway exactly as planned. He was reliable and honest. That means a lot these days!

The Contractor assisted us with a culvert / drainage project including rough and final grading. Very knowledgeable and used a laser for proper grade and drainage.

He quoted one price to grade 400 square feet. After arriving, he upped the price by $150. He was supposed to grade a level area for pool (at site where a prior above ground pool had already existed, but a larger area 216 square feet). He supposedly had a laser on a stick that he tapped on the ground in a few places to check the level. There was no crossbeam of laser light seen to which it was referenced. The completed pool area was NOT level. The above ground pool sloped by more than 6 inches after the pool was put up. Also, he asked me to pay $100 via the HomeAdvisor system. The rest was given by check, so HomeAdvisor did not know the actual price that I paid.

Shortridge is a small business, especially compared to others who do this work, such as Garden Centers and the larger Landscaping companies. I needed to add soil and compacting it into a flat surface on a steep incline in back of my screened lanai. I had planned to place a high end portable Putting Green, which has an adjustable slope feature on the surface.. Larry, the owner, came in with a lower price point. He was quite personable, yet professional in his description. I tend to try to get local, small businesses for my home projects, if I'm not fully confident in my own work. I'm sure this vendor does fine work, however, for me, the result was less than stellar. Although the soil was already beginning to collapse, the work area experienced about one inch of rain fall, and the sides of my surface collapsed, and the entire surface became very muddy and much of it washed away. When I stepped in some areas, my feet sank in a couple of inches or so into a muddy mess. After having someone else look at it, I understood the entire area should have been tightly compacted with a plate compactor. This would have held the soil solid until I was ready to add gravel, sand, or outer material. The way the soil was laid and just smoothed over, instead of compacted, the sides of the area would never have held up, unless it was shored up with cinder block, pavers or other sturdy material. I spent many hours attempting to push the soil back and shoring it up with large pavers. Had I used another vendor who I spoke with, they would have shored up the sides and compacted the soil, for just a little more. Now, I’m in the process of spending much more to get my desired result. Shortridge left me believing all I had to do was add sod to the edges of the soil before placing a heavy putting green structure. That would never be strong enough to keep the 10-inch-high soil on the low side from collapsing down, and washing away. This all was quite unfortunate since Mr. Shortridge was quite personable, and I gave him a nice tip.

Very reasonably priced. Extremely friendly. Quick work. A pro in every sense of the word.
