Contacted this contractor with questions about a house I was about to purchase. They answered my questions in email quickly and timely and due to their information I didn't buy the house. • Ridge Top Exteriors LLC
    5.0
We contacted Ridge Top to address a water leak that was coming into our guest bedroom window from outside gable. From start to completion of work Ridge Top Exteriors did an outstanding job. Nelly did a great job on the original assessment with measurements of the job and Dennis completed repair in a few hours. I waited to do review because I wanted to make sure the leak was addressed and it's been about a month and a few heavy rains and so far so good, no signs of water intrusion. Will definitely use again and refer to others. Nice job Nelly and Dennis. Nick and Vivian J

Who says they love their contractor? I do. Who’d a thunk? Here are all the adjectives to describe John Anderson and his crew: honest, thoughtful, capable, talented, tidy, efficient, proud, fun, happy, skilled, careful, accommodating, thorough, reasonable, and affordable. I’m sure I could write 20 more of them as well. Just one word of advice: Hire these people. You will be thrilled that you did. My house is beautiful

  • John Anderson Building Contractor Inc

GREAT. Project started out in our mind to simply replace three gable areas of our home with new siding. John (of John Anderson Building Contractor (JAB)) showed up as scheduled for the initial visit and spent a lot of time with us, making some great recommendations on how the different siding materials would integrate into the existing home look and how we might save some money in our approach. We settled on James Hardie siding for the three gable areas and Heidi promptly got us a detailed quote which we found to be very fair. Before JAB started, our reroof (by another contractor) identified some other areas needing residing. Again, the quote we got from Heidi was fair and prompt. JAB started and completed the residing on schedule - zero issues. Before the painting was scheduled, and because everything had gone so smoothly, we elected to close in with new siding two windows above our main entrance. Again, quoted and completed as promised and with zero issues. JAB was enjoyable to work with and John and Heidi remained engaged from initial contact thru completion of painting, which also happened on schedule. We are very happy with our decision to use JAB, that we added work scope to the initial project, and with the outcome. Throughout this engagement, it was clear to us that John and Heidi are client-focused and go out of their way to ensure everything JAB does is done right and as promised. It is also clear to us why JAB consistently gets 5 star ratings

Best practices for contracting a neighborhood siding professional

Hiring someone to work on your house is a fairly big deal. You most definitely want qualified, trained experts performing the work, but how can you make sure that you’re discovering the right neighborhood siding contractor for your project? Begin by following some best practices.

Make sure to work with properly licensed, insured contractors

Whenever you hire people to do a project on your property, make sure they have the right insurance coverage. Insurance shields the company and its employees if anything should happen on the job, but it can also safeguard your interests, too.

Employing an appropriately licensed contractor is also vital. If your state or community dictates that siding professionals have licenses, employing anyone who doesn’t could place your job at risk legally or project issues with any mandated permits.

Look over a portfolio of jobs and solicit credentials

Avoid employing siding professionals impulsively. Ask them for photographs of projects previously completed, especially if they have previously performed jobs on a home similar to yours. Then, you can view what the finished project looks like to decide if a contractor is the right choice for your project. You can also request recommendations so you can talk to past consumers and suss out what they liked best about employing them.

Go over the small details meticulously

Be sure to review any contract completely before you sign on the dotted line. If a contractor won’t put things in writing, that’s a red flag that should make you think twice before you agree to purchase services with them.

Average cost of siding a house

The average cost of siding a house depends on so many elements that it’s difficult to provide a good estimate without all of the information. Basically, though, median costs for re-siding a house fall anywhere from $2,900 to $44,000.

Some things that play a role in the cost of your siding job include:

  • The size of the home. Bigger homes require even more siding material, which drives up the price. It also takes more time to install the additional siding, which will increase the cost of labor.
  • Siding type typically plays a role. Vinyl and aluminum siding tend to be the cheapest at $2 to $4 per square foot, on average. Brick siding runs $3 to $10 per square foot, on average, and stone veneer costs $8 to $11 per square foot, on average.
  • Extra labor needed to install siding. If your siding company has to complete extra prep work prior to putting up siding, you’ll probably wind up spending more for their services. That might include pressure washing to remove mold or debris or replacing damaged boards.

A great way to understand how much your job might cost is to ask for estimates from siding pros in your area.
