"Rep. checked entire system. He found several wires not connected properly and fixed this. He also made recommendations regarding the attachment of the panels to the rood that would provide more stability and leakproofing. The representative appeared to know what he was doing - much better than others, including the representative who was engaged by the roofer (who replaced our rood due to hail damage) to disconnect/connect the panels."

"Brandon Bing and Steve Lorenz are owner-operators and I found both of them to be skilled in their trade, honest and hardworking The installation of the water heater and solar panels went well and any bumps were smoothed out. I am initially disappointed in the Solar array's electric impact but I have a few trees that I need to take out and I still need to get my FPL net metering installed. At times I am producing more than what I consume so until I get net metering installed I cannot capitalize on overproduction. These comments are in no way a reflection on All American Solar for their work ethic or products. In fact, the array is expandable so that I can add more panels in the future. The Solar hot water heater is fantastic and has saved me about $60 per month off my electric bill. I would gladly recommend All American Solar for your solar panels or a solar hot water project and I would hire them again."

"My new roof was completed in just two days. I have a 2800 sq. ft. house, that has a steeply pitched "cathedral" roof. I couldn't believe that they completely removed the old roof in one day and had the new roof installed by the end of the second day! I expected the job to take 4-5 days. Several of my neighbors have also commented that they've never seen a complete roof replacement finished so quickly and professionally. By the way, the new roof looks fabulous and new wind turbine attic fans that were installed are FAR more effective at keeping my house cool than the old ridge vents ever were. A few days later, my new solar panels went up. The job went very smoothly and was completed in three days. I am very happy with workmanship and the quality of the materials used. I cannot yet comment on how well the solar system works, as the system has not yet been activated (brought on-line). However, that is my fault, not Lumio's. Based on last-minute information I received from Lumio, I elected to change my order and go with some newer technical equipment, which will upgrade my system by improving its integration capability. Because my 11th hour changes forced the engineers to rework the technical details of my system and reapply for installation permits, that created a delay in bringing my system on-line. I am not at all bothered by this delay, as it was caused by my own choice to upgrade my system, and those upgrades are very desirable. Further, Lumio is installing the upgraded equipment I selected at no additional cost to me. I am 100% satisfied with the service I received and I most strongly recommend Lumio to anyone that is interested in having a new roof or a solar power system installed in their house or business. 5 STARS!"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

  • Installing a new electrical meter box

  • Replacing your meter base

  • Replacing your service entrance cable

The cost to install or upgrade an electrical meter box ranges from $100 to $650, including $50 to $250 for the unit. The meter base passes the power from your electric company to your panel. The cost to replace a meter base is roughly $50 to $250.

Service entrance cables are electrical cables with multiple wires, bringing power from electrical companies to residential buildings. The cost to replace a service entrance cable ranges roughly from $1,000 to $1,500.

A few disadvantages of installing solar panels on your roof include the high up-front costs and the potential for increased property taxes. Installing solar panels can increase the home’s value, which in turn can mean higher taxes. Depending on your area, you should check with your local tax offices for more information. Another potential pitfall is roof leaks from a poor installation, but this shouldn’t be an issue if you hire a reputable company.

No, you cannot turn on a new solar system before inspection. The inspector checks that the system is correctly connected to the grid and that safety components and features are in place. This process prevents problems on the electrical grid and offers protection against fire in your home.

Your local utility company may also require inspection documentation before you can connect to the grid. An inspection can ensure solar power efficiency and determine how you might increase it.
