"I liked that you always got someone on the phone when you called and they stuck to their word. They came when they said they would. We thought we would have a problem when one of the workers made a hole in our ceiling, but they came back to fix it when they said they would be coming and you can’t even tell the difference. Quality workmanship! I would definitely re-hire if I needed to."

"Javier did an excellent job in repairing the large crack my garage ceiling. The roofers stepped on a piece while they were replacing my roof and left a large crack in a very awkward spot in the garage. He was able to come in and get up in that tight area and replace and smooth the drywall to where it looks brand new. Thank you for our very well done job."

"From the moment we called for an estimate, Peter and Leza were always quick to reply to our calls and were out within a day to give us the estimate. After getting 4 other bids we decided to use Painting by Galli, mostly due to all the great review on Angie's List.   We were so pleased with the job the Peter and his crew did for us we decided to use them for other jobs.  They first painted the entire inside of our home including closets, walls, ceiling and all trim.   They always arrived on time and were extremely organized.  The painting was perfect, no spills or drips and they were very careful with covering or moving all our furniture in each room.  Each day when they left they did a thorough job of cleaning up after themselves.  Once this job was done we used them to paint six bar stools, again an excellent job!!!  We are now going to be using them to paint the outside of our home.  I can honestly say that we are so pleased and would definitely recommend this company...

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

It is often less expensive to cover a popcorn ceiling instead of removing it. Installing drywall costs $1.50 to $3 per square foot, whereas popcorn ceiling removal averages $7 per square foot. Another option may be installing beadboard panels over top, giving your ceiling a fresh and modern look.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.

No, not all popcorn ceilings have asbestos, but a vast majority do. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned its use in 1973, although it still may have been used up through the early ‘90s. But, in general, homes built or remodeled before the early ‘80s likely utilized materials with asbestos. That being said, a professional test is the only way to determine for sure.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.
