"I had a rather substantial lap siding job done. Taken down to studs and put up new plywood and Hardie siding. All work including soffits, painting, and new doors was excellent. Fast, professional, on time, and cleaned the area thoroughly daily. I am very hard to please, and I was extremely happy. Additionally, great communication throughout."

"Brad did an amazing job! He showed up with one other man named Joe and they were finished in under a week. He took the time to caulk, sand, and fill gaps & cracks on surfaces he didn't even put siding on. I'm very pleased with their paint matching skills because it's perfect! He pressure washed my sidewalk for free and picked up trash that wasn't theirs as they left my house. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!"

This is the problem that made our client call us. The gutter and roof fell a couple inches due to the roof rafters rotting along with the fascia and ceiling joist. We replaced all the compromised wood, jacked up the roof to the proper pitch and re-framed the joists, rafters, and fascia into the chimney framing to reinforce the entire roof.

Siding questions, answered by experts

Vinyl can withstand many different cleaning methods, but there are two things you need to be wary of. First, particularly harsh chemicals will damage your vinyl siding and reduce its lifespan. Second, be careful about pressure washing your vinyl siding. Vinyl can resist powerful washing damage more than softer siding like wood, but high levels of pressure can still crack it. Use the lowest level of pressure for power washing vinyl, or hire a siding professional to do it.

Different types of siding provide unique aesthetic and structural features, with each material commanding its own cost. Availability of materials and shipping costs also factors largely into the cost. The common types of siding materials include:

  • Stucco: $7–$9 per square foot

  • Wood: $1–$15 per square foot

  • Engineered wood: $1–$6 per square foot

  • Aluminum: $3–$6 per square foot

  • Fiber cement: $5–$14 per square foot

  • Brick: $10–$20 per square foot

  • Brick veneer: $3–$10 per square foot

  • Stone: $7–$30 per square foot

  • Stone veneer: $5–$11 per square foot

The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for cleaning vinyl siding can vary, so it's best to consult the manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, vinyl siding can handle high pressure, from 2,500 to 3,500 PSI. For comparison, more delicate materials like wood and aluminum siding should not face more than 1,500 PSI. To safely disperse the pressure on vinyl, use a tip with a wider spray span, such as a green (25-degree) or yellow (15-degree) nozzle. For routine cleaning of light dirt, a garden hose with a spray nozzle may be sufficient. Always exercise caution to avoid using excessive pressure that could damage the siding.

Wood siding requires an air gap behind it to allow water to drain out, and for air circulation and venting to allow humid air to escape and keep the material from rotting due to moisture.

The main differences between dutch lap versus clapboard siding have to do with their design and texture. Clapboard siding features flat, beveled planks stacked at a slight angle, offering a simple, traditional look. Dutch lap siding features a subtly concave surface along with a notch that creates a shadowed look between the boards. This eye-catching design often resembles wood grain and introduces a noticeable shadow line, making it more visually interesting compared to the simpler look of clapboard siding.
