"He put together my furniture with great efficiency, and he figured out how to put it together without watching videos, as no instructions were included. I have a solid wood coffee table and solid wood office desk that were extremely heavy. He did a great job, took care with my furniture, and helped me take the crates out to the garage. If you have a drawer larger than 30 inches, you should consider adding two pulls, but, again, this decision is up to personal preference. Any pro you work with on cabinet installation can help you determine how many pulls you need and where you should place them.

Walls in good condition with an even surface should be fine for frameless cabinet installation. Older, uneven, or warped walls could create problems. Your studs and their spacing are especially important, since frameless cabinets rely so much on wall attachments. Call in a professional installer for a consultation if you aren’t sure.

As a homeowner, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your cabinet installer. Once the cabinets are ready for your home, you can do the following:

  • Ensure pets are safely in another room, out of the way of open doors and large moving objects.

  • Clear countertops for removal.

  • Tidy the floor the installers will walk through and around. 

  • Prepare to have the installers in your home for the entire day, for multiple days, until the project is done. Expect to have a noisy environment, especially if they will remove old, existing cabinets.  

Make sure your shelves are no more than 12 inches deep. Any deeper and it will become hard to access items towards the back of the shelf. Yet, for larger walk-in pantries, homeowners may prefer 15- to 18-inch shelving to make room for larger appliances and cookware.

It’s best to stick with lightweight cabinets, such as medium-density fiberboard, if you don’t have a wall stud to secure them to. Unless you’re attaching the cabinet to a flat board attached to wall studs, it’s best not to risk it with heavy cabinetry or contents. Solid wood cabinets and heavy dishware should be avoided if you cannot secure the cabinet to a wall stud. Either way, always check the weight on your wall anchors and be sure not to exceed it.
