"Purchasing a new home can be frustrating and when your septic backs up in the first two days turning your shower drains and toilets into a "Bidet" it makes life miserable. We called 5 plumbers to come only the Unstoppers were able to come within a couple of hours to handle the job. I spoke with Jeff who assured me they could handle our emergency. Tim came out the first day and cleared the blockage, however because the house was empty for over a year the roots from our very large, very old Oaks encompassed the entire tank blocking the way to the drain field. Root-Rooter and the Rooter-man wouldn't even give me a ball park quote, over the phone. The Unstoppers gave me a reasonable quote, "which was about $100 less than the other 3 company's I was able to get a quote from, based on what I saw $735 for 2 hours day one, 6 hours day two with 3 men is a fair price." They finished the job and cleaned up around the area, and we are happy. Thanks so much guys. Lynne, Dana & Ed P.S. Tim, please bring back my shovel. ;-)"

"There was no blockage, but found out that the original install of the vent system hand too many bends and this caused the sensor to go off.  Had the original installer back and corrected the problem.

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

A liquid drain cleaner can sometimes make a clog worse over time if you use it improperly or too much. The chemicals in drain cleaners can corrode and damage pipes, causing cracks and leaks that may cause further blockages. If the clog is more than the liquid drain cleaner can handle, the cleaner will simply add chemicals to a bigger overall problem.

No, you should avoid using liquid drain cleaners. These chemicals, often packed with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, can wreak havoc on your pipes, causing erosion and potential leaks. They’re also dangerous to your health. If you’re dealing with a stubborn clog, manual removal or a professional plumber is your best bet. Chemical drain cleaners can often make things worse, especially if the clog stays put and the chemicals linger in your pipes.

Snaking a drain can take as little as a few minutes for small, simple clogs, up to two hours or more for tough clogs located further down the drain line. For tougher clogs, a professional drain cleaner can likely get the job done much more quickly because they have the necessary tools and expertise. However, your drain cleaning pro might not be able to give you a firm time estimate until inspecting the clog and its surrounding plumbing.

A saturated leach field can result from various underlying issues, so it's best to call a professional septic company to diagnose and treat the problem. Depending on the cause of the saturation, potential fixes include pumping out a full septic tank, adding more bacteria to the tank, or regrading the soil to fix low spots. It may also be necessary to reroute rainwater and runoff away from the leach field using gutters, downspouts, and extenders. Once the primary issue is resolved, planting specific types of vegetation over the area can help absorb excess water. In more severe cases, you might need to install a larger septic tank or replace the leach field entirely.
