"The team at rock it Stone Inc. were great. They had my old tile shower, removed one day and prepared for install. The next day they have the solid surface panels installed within three hours. I’m really happy with the final results. Thank you!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Joe did a fantastic job power cleaning my tile floors and coloring the grout. I picked the wrong color for the grout and he brought it to my attention that it didn't look very good. He called Kim and she drove to my house to deliver a color that would work better. It turned out great. Joe and Kim go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied with the work. I highly recommend their service."

"Don came to our home to review the work that we wanted to have done, and provided us a proposal just a few days later. He was able to do the work according to our schedule, and we are absolutely delighted with the outcome. I am somewhat critical (a bit of a perfectionist with the work I personally do), and usually don't give all "A" ratings, but I was 100% pleased with the attention to detail and every aspect of this job... on time every day, took steps to keep the house clean as he worked, and accommodated a couple of my requests to set the tile in a certain manner."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

Many homeowners have successfully retiled a bathroom themselves. It can be a challenging but rewarding process, but it’s best for someone who already has at least intermediate DIY skills.

To make a bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored, medium- to large-format tiles. Light colors such as white, cream, or light gray make a space feel more open, while dark colors, busy patterns, and small tiles can make a bathroom feel smaller. It may seem counterintuitive, but small tiles can shrink a room visually due to the increased number of grout lines. Using medium- to large-format tiles creates a more seamless look. For the best effect, pair your light-colored tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout. This minimizes the grid-like pattern and gives the floor and walls a more continuous, uninterrupted appearance, helping the room feel significantly larger.
