"Blaze repaired/replaced our cabana structures (2) that sustained damages from last Fall's hurricanes (Helene/Milton); Blaze's timely response, fair pricing, and quick turnaround was amazing!! Danny's constant communication was refreshing, and took all of the guess work out of when we'd get the repairs done!! Blaze also repaired out 2 front gates, with multiple hinge failures. After replacing with what we thought would work, those new hinges failed; Danny repaired the gates with sturdier hinges, and our front gates are in working order. Great company to deal with!! "Bill and his team were great to work with. He was part of the process the entire way, and although scheduling and attaining materials is tough in this post-COVID landscape for business, he was able to get us worked in with a few weeks and his team was willing to work on Saturday to finish our job quickly. The quality is better than we expected, and we are extremely happy with the final product."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.

On average, awning costs range from $1,400 to $4,400. The low end of the cost range can be around $100 up to $7,500 on the high end. Cost factors include the type of awning, size, and location. Portable awnings are the most affordable and DIY-friendly to install, costing $100 to $400. Larger, motorized awnings tend to be more solidly built, ranging in price from $2,000 to $3,500.

While brick is sturdy and aesthetically pleasing, it’s also an expensive siding material. Other great siding options to consider include vinyl siding, wood siding, and fiber cement siding. Vinyl siding is likely to be the most affordable option, but wood siding can create a rustic aesthetic, and fiber cement is one of the lowest-maintenance siding options available.

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.

The least expensive way to enclose a porch is with screens. These protect the room by preventing insects from entering and, if you live in a warm climate, provide excellent airflow during hot summer months. Screens cost far less than any other alternative, so if you are against getting permits, spending too much, or enclosing your porch in walls or glass, screens are the best choice.
