"I had a pipe burst in my house a few weeks ago. Will came and gave me an estimate and knew what the problem was. When. He fixed it as soon as we scheduled and was done quick and efficient. A week later my hot water heater finally gave out and Will was there same day I called and installed a brand new one. I couldn’t have asked for a better plumber. On top of all that he beat competitors prices. I highly recommend Will and Coker Plumbing. I will be referring him to anyone that needs a plumber. Thank you for your excellent work."

"I recently had a plumbing problem at my home in Navarre. Navarre uses lift pumps to push sewage out to the main line. The pumps have a grinder pump that chews up solids and pumps the tank out, which is level controlled. I called Ben Franklin Plumbers, on recommendation from Navarre City Water, who came out and gave me an estimate of $6,400 to install a new grinder and pump and control box. A copy of this quote is included. Ben Franklin Plumbers took my old pump out and saw that I had a large tank beneath the sleeve, so they didn’t need to replace it, instead using my existing tank and sleeve. When the electrician came, he said it would be an extra $1,800 to install an extra breaker, all of which was supposed to be included in the initial price. Since they were going to use my tank and sleeve, they said that they would just swap the price of the breaker for the new tank and sleeve. I felt I was overcharged, so I called Ben Franklin Plumbers and spoke with their representative, Nick. He said that they use the best pumps and that they back all their equipment. He said there are companies that charge less but that Ben Franklin does the best job, so there would be no reparations for the over-estimation on the job or for work not done. I checked with two other plumbers. One said that he would have done the same job for $2,600 to $2,800 and that he hated that Ben Franklin Plumbers overcharged for their service. The other plumber said that the cost of a 2 HP grinder pump installed with electrical box should have been $2,400 to $2,600."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Different plumbing systems may sound different when a pipe is about to burst, so sounds alone are not a definitive indication of a burst pipe. However, dripping sounds indicate a leaking pipe, and there’s a thin line between a small leak and a bursting overflow. Metallic sounds like clanging and rattling are common when a pipe bursts, though they can also indicate a normally functioning hot water system.

No, they are two different things. Some tanks have a pressure relief valve built in. The purpose of this valve is to prevent the rupturing of the water heater due to pressure generated during the heating process. An expansion tank redirects water from the heater tank to relieve pressure so while they have the same purpose—alleviating pressure—the expansion tank is the only item actually redirecting water.

While a leak may seem small, even a gentle trickle of consistent moisture can lead to mold problems in your bathroom. Make sure you know how to check for mold if your toilet has been leaking for a while. Pooling water by your toilet also poses a risk for someone slipping on the slick floor of your bathroom. Finally, a leak of any size can lead to water waste that increases your water bill.

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common installation method that can simplify plumbing and save space. However, there are important considerations. The vent and associated plumbing must be large enough to handle the demands of all fixtures without compromising the vent's effectiveness. Additionally, the toilet should always be located downstream of all other fixtures. Because requirements can vary and space might be limited, it is essential to check your local building and plumbing codes and consult with a qualified plumber to ensure the installation is done correctly.

Some of the most common plumbing repairs are certainly no small issues. The good news is that plumbers typically deal with these problems frequently and have the parts and tools ready to take care of them quickly and efficiently. These common problems include:

  • Clogged drains: $75–$250

  • Clogged toilet: $125–$300

  • Bathtub and shower: $100–$600

  • Faucet or showerhead: $200–$350

  • Sink pipe: $200–$500

  • Toilet repair: $150–$400
