The project manager, Joshua, came out to look at our cracking concrete patio, diagnosed the issue, and had a cost-effective solution for us. He also provided all the information we needed to get a quick approval from our HOA. The team that did the work, Tory & Blake, were on time, efficient, and highly skilled. Not only did they stabilize the concrete patio using their foam injection process, they spent a lot of time caulking and smoothing all the cracks (literally on their hands & knees) doing a meticulous job. The process worked so well, it actually lifted one section and eliminated a 1" difference in height so no more trip hazard either. The most common cause of concrete cracks is shrinkage when the concrete hardens and cures. The stress from the shrinkage exceeds the concrete’s strength. Concrete cracking can also occur when it experiences extremely cold or hot temperatures, such as a particularly harsh winter or a firepit built into a concrete patio.

Spraying water on concrete will slow down the curing process and can help create a stronger slab. Spraying your concrete may be necessary if you’re pouring in hotter temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, if it’s particularly windy, or if your new concrete is exposed to intense sunlight. Avoid spraying for the first four hours, and then spray five to 10 times a day for the following week.

If there is standing liquid on your concrete, remove it before attempting any of the above cleaning methods. For small amounts of water, use rags, a bucket, and a mop. For larger areas of liquid, lay down cat litter or baking soda to soak up the water first. If you have extremely large pools of water sitting on your concrete, break out the wet vac and get to work.

A properly installed 6-inch concrete slab, mixed and cured under the right conditions, can support about 3,000 pounds concentrated over a single square foot without buckling. Conversely, concrete pavers can handle around 8,000 pounds per square inch when laid over a solid, well-compacted base.

Whether or not you need reinforcements for your concrete slab depends on the thickness, what you’ll use the slab for, and the climate and soil conditions in your area. Adding reinforcements increases the strength and durability of your concrete slab, so it’s ideal for load-bearing slabs like driveways and home foundations.
