"Used them for painting kitchen cabinets. Did a meticulous job prepping and sealing off the work area. Final job was excellent. Cleaned everything up each day and did a beautiful job overall. Also had them paint some outside work and it was well done and reasonably priced. Nice guys too! From now on I wouldn t use anyone else."

"David and his son were extremely professional and friendly, they are very efficient and made sure the job was done right.they also accommodated me when I asked to change a color at the last minute, with no extra charge. Out of the three estimates I got they were the most reasonable and in the end my house looks amazing!!I had my entire exterior painted including the shutters,my stucco repaired and painted ,and the entire garage painted. I would highly recommend them !!"

"A Step above Painting and Drywall are "exceptional". I need new flooring all on the 1st floor as well as needed the entire house (Interior) to be painted. Andres and his team did an outstanding job on my floors and painting. Tony (Mgr) is awesome - busy - but he does follow up, great person and team. I would HIGHLY recommend this company for your projects."

"The final look was absolutely beautiful. A certain color i picked didn’t look how i expected it to & they were more than willing to paint over and redo that section with a different color of my choice. Everyone was very respectful & professional. I will be calling back for more inside work!"

Small jobs welcome

"Ed and his son Charles were great. They sealed our asphalt driveway which looks great. While there they also resurfaced our deck, repaired damage, and stained it. Both of these projects were great. After these two projects, they were also willing to repair some tyvek and siding in the front of our house and paint our shutters. Pricing was fair, Ed and Charles were highly professional, and all of the work looks great. We would recommend them and will use them in the future for work on our house."

Painting questions, answered by experts

While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.
