"The 4-man team arrived on time and went to work! The tree was very awkward to reach and so a crane was used. Each man was skilled & professional. I was truly impressed — a thorough and safe job — a major effort, really well done -- in about 4 hours. I highly recommend Brandywine Tree & Shrub."

"We couldnâ  t have been happier. We used Londonâ  s Land Improvements to lay a crush an run pad for our new shed. They were professional, provided great advice, priced fairly and finished the job in the timeframe that was laid out. Most importantly they did a quality job. We plan on using them for a future driveway project."

"I had three pine trees removed which were anywhere from 65 to 70 feet tall. Ordinarily I would have had the extra expense of a service that uses a crane, but fortunately, I had a tree climber who did the job the old fashioned way. He also had great helpers who did a good job of cleaning up. I would recommend this service to anyone. They were professional, courteous and offered reasonable prices."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You can use the formula mentioned earlier to calculate the depth of tree roots. Each inch of width of a tree trunk translates to six inches of depth within the root system. Large trees extend anywhere from 2 to 6 feet into the ground, with some magnificent specimens going even deeper.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

State and local laws vary, but in most cases, you are allowed to trim any branches from your neighbor's tree that cross your property line. However, it's important to ensure you do not damage the overall health of the tree in the process. Removing branches incorrectly can jeopardize the health of the tree and could lead to you being on the hook to replace it.

It depends on where you live—but in most areas, leaves begin falling in September and continue falling until January or February. Warmer regions, such as Southern states, may see leaves fall a bit later in the calendar year. It also depends on the type of trees in your yard and their maturity.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.
