"I was very pleased with the work Bill and his crew did. All were very pleasant and professional. They were able to do a final cleanup from over the winter, removing all sticks and leaves. Following that They weeded, raked, installed edging, applied and spread mulch. Did a final cleanup of the mulch, driveway and walk areas before leaving. Very happy with the job they did. I would recommend this company and I would hire them again."

"They did the entire basement (complete perimeter "french drain", 2 sump pumps, etc). Al and his crew were phenomenal. Professional, clean (which is something for this type of work), and responsible. His crew came to work, knocking out everything in less than 2 days. I like to do things correctly and only once. While he was not the cheapest, his name says it all - it was done the RIGHT WAY. His services were second to none including the expert advice. The only company I will ever use and he is the only establishment you should consider."

"Great experience beginning to end. We had 3 contractors come out for quotes and Stable Works was a one stop shop that met all our needs (removal of old chain link fence, bushes, trees, and trumpet vines cleared, plus the install of a new vinyl fence) while the other companies would not do the removal and ground prep and not even entertain subcontracting the work out. John provided the quote and gave his recommendations. We had to get the permits (which Iâ ve never had to do with other contractors weâ ve hired), but he was upfront about that and it was a good learning experience for me. Once the permits were squared away, they started early on Monday and by the end of the day Wednesday were complete! Mike and Jonathan were the workers and did a fantastic job. They were quick to get started each morning, hard working, and answered any questions we had. I would recommend Stable Works for all your outdoor needs. They truly are a one stop shop and I look forward to getting them in for the next project."

"We are new to the Lewes De. Area. We had a new home built and needed a walk way and courtyard installed. My wife has difficulty walking so having a front walkway installed was a priority. I called 3 landscape/hardscape companies to get quotes and ideas for the job. All three did show up on their scheduled dates. Took measurements, gave suggestions and 2 gave very nice books to choose materials and ideas from. Noland Adams was the only business to get back to us with 3 different options and prices. We never heard anything back from the other two businesses. Since this job was a priority we went with Adams landscape. Wow!! are we glad we did. Noland and Juan did a fantastic job. Price was more than fair considering the amount of work and materials. They stayed on this job from start to finish. No skipping days. They paid attention to details and the finished job came out excellent. Do not hesitate to give Adams Landscaping a call. You won't be disappointed with their work. I guess the other 2 landscapers follow the "Lower, Slower, Delaware " saying. They don't recognize a priority job. Adams Landscaping was prompt, reliable and fair priced."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

Excavations take a few days or up to a few weeks. The time it takes to excavate an area depends on the size of the area, the type of soil, the type of excavator, and even the time of year, since winter can make digging up the ground more difficult.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.
