Done in the timeframe anticipated day and a half. There was a problem with a faulty thermometer outside which was replaced the next day. Cleaned up very well - would not know there was work done (and the furnace i
s in the attic)I have a yearly service contract with Service Today for my HVAC.
I had an appt. set for two weeks from today to get my heater ready for winter. However, I turned on my heat yesterday and realized this morning that the motor was running but the heat itself hadn't kicked in.
I called at @ 8:45 AM to schedule a tech to come out. He arrived at 9:30 AM and over @ 3.5 hours, replaced a defective part, which he had on his truck, and winterized my unit in one visit so I was able to take the appt. for two weeks away off my calendar! The tech, James, was pleasant, professional and highly competent.
The instant response was incredible and the fact the tech requested that he be allowed to do the winterization in addition to the repair in this visit was great!
I highly recommend this company for your HVAC service.
I decided to call service today and schedule a service. The person I talked to was very nice and quite helpful. I told her I'd like to get my heat pump and my oil furnace serviced. I also explained the heat pump might need to have the gas charge checked, and perhaps some gas added, as it was not cooling as well as normal. Over the 15 years the system has been installed, the system has had to have gas added twice. The service was scheduled for the next day between 12:00PM and 05:00PM, so far so good.
The next day I did not hear from anyone until 05:30PM at which time I got a call saying the service guy would be arriving soon. I said fine. Although this was a bit after the time the service was scheduled for, I was fine with it. I understand how the service business is and how things get backed up.
Around 6:00PM the service guy arrived. I went out to great him, and tried to make causal conversation. I said to him, I guess you're working some overtime today. He seemed annoyed and said something to the effect that it was not because he wanted to. I understand doing service can be a hard job. I was a medical device field service engineer myself before I retired. I know service guys can have a bad day. So I tried to move on.
Anyway, we started to discuss what needed to be done. I explained the heat pump should be an easy service, as it already had a new filter, and the outside condenser was clean and free of debris. I said the evaporator may need cleaning, the system checked for performance, and perhaps a bit of gas added. Now the serviceman seemed upset with this. He went on to say he could not put gas in the system without calling the office to get permission. I thought how strange. He also was quick to explain that this would cost extra. I said I understand that. So far this guy is giving me all kinds of signals that he may not be the right guy to do business with.
I then moved on to mention the other job, my oil furnace service. Now he is even more agitated. He told me he was not told the second job was an oil furnace. I thought perhaps he did not work on oil furnaces, and so ask him. He said he did. I thought maybe due to the late hour he did not want to get involved with the oil furnace, so I told him it could be done
later. This did not seem to make him any happier.
We then walked around to the heat pump to look at it. He again mentioned I'd have to pay more, and it is expensive to put gas into the system. I believe he said between 30 and 60 dollars a pound for the R22. I'm thinking which is it? Anyway, I mentioned I had a brand new full 30# bottle of R22 he could use, and this seemed to get him more upset. Look, I'm retired and have to watch my pennies. I did not think this was an unreasonable request, and I told him I understood I'd have to pay more for the labor. He said he was in the business to make money and would not use my gas. I'm a reasonable guy, but at this point I'd seen enough of this guy. He arrived at my house late, and obviously not in any mood to do any work. I tried to work with his attitude offering to reschedule the oil furnace. I tried to be friendly and respectful with him and got nothing in return. I'd had enough and said it was best if he left, he did, and he was quick to do so.
The next day I called Service Today and explained what happened, and why I ask the serviceman to leave. The woman I talked to was very understanding and said this was not how they do business. After we talked about it, I agreed to send an e mail detailing my experience. I did so the next day.
You would think that after I explained that I was looking for more than just a quick service, that I may be interested in replacing some of my HVAC equipment, and that I was looking to get some kind of relationship including maybe a service contract, that they would be very interested in my business.
Well, they spoke loudly and clearly that they are not interested. I never heard back from anyone.
I'm a bit surprised. I did check with a friend that uses Service Today. He has a contract with them and is happy with them. I did check Angie's List, and the reviews were good. So I'm left to wonder why I had such a lousy experience. I can defiantly say I won't be calling them back.
