"Excellent, reasonable and professional service provided. We were so impressed! Texts and phone calls were promptly responded to. They came to the house exactly when they said they would for both the estimate and the tree removals. I called on Wednesday, Alex came on Saturday for estimate, emailed estimate/contact a few hours later, and cut the trees on Wednesday. The entire job was completed in about 3 hours and they went above and beyond just removing our 2 trees. They also removed dead branches from surrounding trees and cut away grape vines that were strangling two flowering cherries for a small additional fee which we had agreed upon. Our yard was left spotless - all wood was either chipped and removed or neatly stacked to the side. Debris was raked and blown off the grass. Our yard is swampy and we were concerned about the truck’s tires sinking and making a mess but they put tracks down which protected the grass completely! I highly recommend this business!"

"Brian of Sergeant Major Stump Grinding was excellent. I've left a long-detailed review - but I can sum it up here in 3 lines: 1) Easy to work with and professional  2) Great competitive prices / quotes. 3) Did exactly what I asked for and left the site looking better than it did. He is an upbeat guy, who was willing to come out and quote my project on the weekend. He asked if I could text him detailed photos of the stumps, which I did. Based on the pics that I texted him; he was able to quote me via text. This eliminated two trips out to my house, and enabled this project to happen very quickly - which I greatly appreciate! His quote was extremely reasonable, so I agreed to his quote, and he came out at our agreed upon time on Sunday. He was right on time. His equipment was extremely clean, and his safety protocols were excellent - which I appreciated. His stump grinder wasn't that loud, and my wife was able to meet with friends inside the house the entire time that Brian ground the two stumps. His work was extremely neat as well. He asked me where I wanted the wood chip piles from the stumps and I told him where I wanted them. He filled the stump holes and had very neat piles of wood chips for me. He also used a blower and left the job site cleaner than it looked before he got there. I would hire him again in a heartbeat. Thank you! Karl Lund"

"They were fast and effiicient...owner personable and willing to work with you!! Yard was somewhat protected with panels that they laid down for their trucks to have access to the yard. I had some concerns about yard but owner was reassuring and coming back in the Spring to seed any part of lawn affected by the equipment. Very happy overall would recommend anyone to use them."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

If you want to take the decomposition process into your hands to speed it up, water and sunlight are key. Of course, you can’t control sunlight yourself, but you can rake leaves into piles in sunny spots in your yard. In terms of using water, you can also moisten the decomposing leaves with water, whether by pouring some from a watering can from time to time or using a hose to moisten them.

In most cases, it’s better to remove rocks before adding mulch. Layering the two will restrict drainage and plant health, and can create an unpleasant texture underfoot.

Most junk removal services don’t take hazardous materials, including paint, gasoline, bleach, and other chemicals. When gathering quotes, ask the company about its specific restrictions.

Don’t pick up dirt after aerating. Even though it's tempting because soil cores are incredibly unsightly, these cores and the dirt they leave behind are ecologically important. This is what keeps your grass looking beautiful and growing healthily. The soil cores need two to three weeks to decompose, but you can swat them with a rake if their natural shape bothers you.

Unless you plan to use a dump trailer for business purposes, it will be hard to justify the cost of buying one. Even a small, used 6-by-10-foot model could set you back as much as $5,000, and larger, high-quality models can cost up to $15,000 to buy brand-new.
