"Elvin is great. He fixed my wood double front doors and applied paint that I had picked out, as well as new handles/lock. "Never having hired a locksmith before, I wasn't sure what to expect of what they could do with a vintage mortise front door lock and doorknob that only turned from the inside. Their locksmith listened to what I wanted rather than try to sell me an entire new locking mechanism. I wanted to keep the original house parts working if possible in keeping with the character of a vintage home. He diligently repaired the mortise lock and door knob to working use again all at a very resonable cost. I would definately hire them again."

No, a storm door should not replace a regular door. It lacks the durability, insulation, and security of a proper exterior door. Most storm doors have lightweight frames and minimal locking hardware, and they aren’t meant to stand alone. While they work well as a backup to your main entry door, relying on one as your only barrier would likely lead to drafts, higher energy bills, and safety concerns.

Most bedroom doors are 30, 32, or 36 inches wide and about 80 inches tall, depending on the size of the room, the height of the ceiling, and any special accommodations that may be necessary for the bedroom’s occupant. The size of your bedroom door may be larger than average if it leads into a very large bedroom or a home with unique wall or ceiling features.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

Dirt, dust, or rust can also build up inside the hinge and add to the friction. Loose screws or slight misalignment can shift things just enough to create that irritating squeaking noise. Worn-out hinges or swelling wood from humidity changes can also be part of the problem on older doors. A good cleaning and proper lubrication usually take care of it, but if the squeak sticks around, it’s worth checking for bigger issues with the hinges or alignment.
