"A soft wall due to improperly installed gutter by some other entity or homeowner caused water to constantly leak into the wall from the exterior roofline. This soft wall grow moldy and become riddled with pests/bugs. The contractor identified the potential issues, agreed to explore and open the walls and discuss the conditions, made sound recommendations for repair and did exactly what was noted in the repair (replaced a load bearing exterior wall, fixed the sill plate, completed the roof, shingles etc. and closed up the walls on the inside with insulation and sheet rock.). The work was timely, well done, the workers were clean as they did the job and kept the rest of the property clean. The manager of the job David Apel was and is an excellent communicator with phone/email/text and photos of processes and progress. I am going to use this company in my own investment endeavors on other properties and projects given the level of finished work, the timing and especially the level of detailed communication."

"Matthew is very easy to work with. He listens carefully and is willing to discuss different solutions that might work. Matthew is very adaptable and gave his wealth of experience to steer our many projects. Our old house is a "fixer-upper" and needs a wide range of repair. Matthew's expertise in carpentry was a huge help in working out these complex problems with us. Matthew arrives on time and fully equipped with the right tool for just about anything. He is neat and always cleans up at the end of each day. There are no hidden surprises in his invoice at the end of the job. He quotes jobs accurately and sends the invoice promptly. Extra costs are always discussed ahead of time. Matthew is a cheery enthusiastic skillful fellow and a joy to work with. We will happily be using him again. And it is always Matthew and not somebody else who comes to work!."

"The work went really well.  Rick and Matt were very responsive and very knowledgeable.  They came out and gave us a quote for the work, which was more than we wanted to spend.  My wife and I bought all the raw materials for the fence, and tried to do it ourselves.  We started with a posthole digger, then a one-man augur, then a two-man augur, and just couldn't sink the posts deep enough.
We went back to Rick, and was happy to do the job with our materials.  Matt came out and re-surveyed the job.  We agreed on a quote, and four weeks later they had two guys out there with manual tools, and they got the whole job done in two days.  Mind you that this involved a slope, and very rocky soil.
We had a few concerns about some cosmetic/quality issues in small areas, and Rick dispatched the guys to our place that same week, and they fixed everything to our liking.  Rick also said that if the fence doesn't live up to their promises, or something fails, that we can call them back and they'll set it right for us.
Very good experience, and we'll hopefully be using them again soon for another area.

"It went well! I expected it to take a long time to get it picked up, but I called for the bag to be emptied on Friday and they were here Saturday! I am already filling it up again. (We have a MESS from the storm and need to finish the kitchen before this weekend's company coming in from out of town.) I have already called them to request my bag be emptied on Friday, and they have me on the schedule! I can't believe the customer service is so great! This is not a regular dumpster company. I have a dumpster delivered last summer and they gouged my driveway. What a nightmare it was to get them to pay for the driveway to be fixed. NEVER AGAIN! It's BullBag only for our future needs."

"Amazing work even with rainy weather. They cleaned up their work area and the results are spectacular. Chris, the owner was very knowledgeable and gave amazing recommendations, especially for someone like myself, who had no idea what would work best for our yard. 10/10 recommend!!"

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

While it is possible to install a manual gate yourself, it is generally not recommended. Professional installation is strongly advised, especially for automated or large driveway gates. Gates can be extremely heavy, sometimes weighing hundreds of pounds, which makes them bulky and dangerous to maneuver into place. Proper installation requires perfect positioning and balancing to ensure the gate swings smoothly and functions as intended. For automated gates, the wiring is also hazardous and typically requires a licensed electrician. Mistakes during a DIY installation can be costly, as materials alone can average around $1,000. Given the safety risks and the difficulty of achieving a proper setup, it is best to hire a professional gate installer.

Yes, driveway gates can help secure your home by deterring burglars from accessing your property. Climbing a gate slows down burglars while also attracting attention to your gate. If you live further down your property and want to increase security, you can also install a gate security camera that connects to your gate and monitors the area for suspicious activity.

The obvious disadvantage of an automatic gate is that it runs on electricity. If the power goes out, it won’t open or close unless there’s a manual override. Many homeowners will need a backup generator so they don’t get stuck on either side of the gate, particularly when looking to park a vehicle. Automatic gates are also much more complicated than manual gates, with tech-heavy components that make them more expensive to repair.

Hiring a reliable gate company starts by finding an installer with at least five years of experience in your area. This method will ensure they understand local laws and regulations and are familiar with the permitting process. You can also ask the following questions to ensure a smooth installation:

  • Have you worked with my gate material in the past?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Will you pull the necessary permits for the installation?

  • Do you provide any kind of warranty for the gate’s functionality?
