"Unfortunately the brand new fans (right out of the box) did not work properly. Kosta, the owner, then explained it was because the fans were only capable of operating at one speed, low. This was not the case as the fans had multiple speeds as we later found out when paying yet again, to have the fans properly installed. (Now they world on all five speeds.) Kosta did not do the work properly. In addition, the outside timer was also improperly installed rendering it useless. Worse, even though he didn't know how to set the timer he proceeded to install it anyway with a non-trivial charge. The only properly installed work was 2 electrical outlets. The cost for all the mistake and poorly done work was exorbitant -- and that was before the additional cost to hire someone to do the work correctly. Consumer beware."

"Mike was great! He responded promptly to my initial call. We set an appointment for a couple weeks later (due to the holiday and my travel plans). The day before our appointment he called to confirm as we were in the midst of a nor'easter. He said he would call when he was on his way - which he did. When Mike arrived he reviewed what I wanted done and got right to work. He was personable and professional. He was very concerned about the snow and salt on his boots because he didn't want to damage my wooden floors, and brought in a moving blanket to protect them. After he was done he not only cleaned up after himself but also removed debris left by the original electrician who had wired the house. In total, he was here for just under an hour. I would definitely use Mike again. This was a great example of how things should work when you hire someone to work on your home."

The Mission of Better Built Basements, LLC is to have Connecticut homeowners select us as their remodeling contractor by providing innovative and affordable basement solutions. We strive to build trust and confidence with our customers with precise quotes, honest and consistent communication, professional appearance and demeanor, and accurate time lines for every project.

"Unfortunately I give BBB a 1 star rating. The project began October of 2021 with demolition, upon completion of each phase I sent an email to Better Built Basement management thanking them for their work effort and identifying items that either required further explanation and/or resolution. As the project went on, I became increasingly frustrated with their lack of communication, lack of accountability, lack of caring, and lack of skill. The straw that broke my back was when Jim (an owner) called me a f’ing c’sucker. Randy, (an owner) sent me the following email: No one has time to read your 3-page condensing e-mails. You have done nothing but complaint. It's obnoxious and draining to everyone you come in contact with. There isn't one person who cant wait to have you out of our lives. I terminated Better Built Basements on June 7th, 2022, here are some of the details of my experience: - The demo crew was excellent in and out in a day and did a great job cleaning up - The electricians were very consultative in their approach to the project, providing input on lighting and outlet placements. - Framing was mediocre. Despite using laser equipment, one wall was wavy and the ceiling grid has a large gap. Pictures attached. - New steel stud framing and pre-hung doors should be dead on straight as an arrow instead, two of the doors has an aesthetically noticeable skew. - The replacement to an existing door resulted in using the wrong hinge set for the existing mortices, inclusive of color – all the other hardware is brass they used chrome. Picture attached. - 3 of the four doors were either chipped or cracked. BBB was notified before the ‘final’ paint job, but they failed to address the issue. - I returned home the day they applied joint compound to find glops of joint compound on the floor, which I tracked around my house, and glops on wood work on a floor where no work was occurring. Pictures attached - Following the flooring installation, they left garbage in my basement for 2.5 weeks, then did not take it when they came back – in frustration I disposed of it myself. - Many of joints on the ¼ round trim molding were caulked excessively to cover up sloppy miters. - Cracked switchhplate was not replaced. Picture attached. - Sub-contractors have sub-contractors, who seem to be able to sub contract – direct employees of BBB other than the demo and electrical were rare. BBB demands using a lock box, Many people have the combination, providing little sense of security over access to the home. Overall, BBB does a bad job communicating, managing expectations and fails to deliver on their stated objectives at best they are contractors not craftsman."

"My name is Louis Nichole. I am a 71 year old senior citizen.   I filed a lawsuit against Superior Fuel in Connecticut Superior Court, Docket No. UWY-CV15-6028443-S. The work performed by Superior Fuel was defective, deficient and not acceptable for the following reasons: 1)They provided mechanical HVC specifications that were improperly sized. A mechanical engineer was hired to redo the entire specifications. 2)Superior/Riggi was an oil/service provider. They had little to no experience with propane, yet took on entire house of 6,000 sq ft...(radiant Heating.)... which I was informed later.... they had never done before.   3)They provided and installed an improperly sized regulator for my tanks.... and would not uphold the one year warranty, despite it was faulty.... and was removed by a reliable propane company. 4) Riggi installed a European Cooktop .... not even reviewing the manufacturers instructions which were presented. That new stove top was replaced after one year. 5) Above all, they were paid in full for the work they performed and refused to remediate any of the undersized work they had installed. The house remains uninhabitable in 2023 with the work they performed.   I then filed another litigation against Superior Fuel in Waterbury Small Claims Court, UWY-CV-22-5029642-B.  A judgment in my favor was issued on April 13, 2022 in Small Claims Court against Riggi, individually, and Superior Fuel, (sold and no longer doing business as Superior Fuel.)  I was awarded the full amount sought.   Superior HVAC and Tank Removal is a new company formed in the State of CT in 2018. Generator Install questions, answered by experts

No, this is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and you should never attempt it. If you connect your generator to your home without a transfer switch, the generated power can backfeed, essentially flowing back into the utility lines. Backfeeding exposes a significant threat of fatalities or harm to you and utility personnel, in addition to jeopardizing the structural integrity of your home.

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.

Here’s what you can run with different wattages and types of generators:

Portable generator:

  • 2,000 watts can handle a large appliance like a freezer or refrigerator, plus a few smaller items like phones or computer chargers.

  • 4,000 watts will keep two large appliances operating and a few smaller devices.

  • 8,000 watts should power most essential appliances and other devices, including a sump pump, well pump, or your dishwasher.

Partial to whole-house generator:

  • 20,000 watts and above will make it seem like your home’s power is still on.
