"Wonderful experience! Our old deck needed SERIOUS help. Paint Perfect was recommended to us, and we couldn’t be happier. They got us a quote quickly, they got us scheduled as soon as possible, and the end result was nothing short of spectacular. I highly recommend this business."

"Although we did not end up selecting Luis' company for our project (we had several contractors come out and ended up going with someone who is very local to our community), I did want to comment on how professional he was and how quick he was to respond to our initial call. He responded within a few hours and also ended up coming out the same day to take a look. We had the written estimate within 24 hours. He was a very professional gentleman. I also want to say that he was polite when I responded to him to let him know that we had selected someone else. I REALLY appreciate that kind of professionalism and would definitely consider him in the future."

"J Corrigan LLC is the best contractor we have used. During a gigantic rainstorm we had a terrible leak in our roof and needed emergency repairs. We contacted J Corrigan who responded very quickly. Mr. Corrigan himself arrived to assess the damage. He took pictures so we could see for ourselves. He quoted us a fair price. That same day, workmen covered the roof with a tarp, and began the repair roofing the very next day. They were professional, efficient and tidy in their work. We even got “after” pictures. I highly recommend J Corrigan and will use this fine company again."

"I have a large deck with a grape vine top. It was in dire need of repairs(washing, sanding, replacing rotted wood, staining) I called J. Corrigan from Angie's list. He arrived estimated and I contracted with him. His team arrived and an excellent job was performed in the amount of time given. I will be calling them again for other projects. "Thanks Joe and team for a job well done.""

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.
