"I was very impressed with David's responsiveness and every member of his crew was a pleasure. They completely removed the kitchen floor (and several layers of subfloor) in my 100+ year-old home, made repairs to floor joists and installed new flooring that looks beautiful. It was an evolving project and I appreciated the team's flexibility and speed with which they completed the project."

"Jermaine is one of those handymen who is worth their weight in gold. I hired him and his team to perform a variety of odd jobs around my newly purchased house, and they stayed late - on a Friday afternoon no less - to successfully install appliances that Home Depot was unable to install (appliance installation was not on my original list because I didn’t think it was something Jermaine’s group did). All work Jermaine and his team did met or exceeded my expectations, and the entire time, Jermaine was focused on doing as much for me as he could. I will 100% hire Jermaine again the next time I need a handyman, and you should too."

"Noel Jarrett is the best! He has worked for us for over 10 years and has saved us a lot of money with his ability to fix and repair things--from our wood fences, rock walls, flagstone, plumbing, etc. He has a van fully equipped to do the job. Additionally, Noel manages our property during the winter when we are in Florida and he does an excellent job. When any problem arises, even in the middle of the night, Noel never hesitates to drive over and assess or resolve the problem. We always have a lot of piece of mind with Noel on the job!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

If a light switch is off, it’s very unlikely to cause a fire. For a fire to start, the switch has to be on, activating an electrical current, and the wiring must be faulty. However, the malfunctioning light switch could cause an intermittent current to move across the electrical wire. This issue could become a fire hazard with another device connected to the wire. You should replace the bad light switch as soon as you notice it or call an electrician.

Baking soda is an effective fire reduction method. However, flour and baking powder are very dangerous around flames. Flour is flammable and it can also conduct electricity. The combination can cause serious injury from electrical shock and worsen the situation by adding fuel to the fire. Baking powder is also not an option as it's also highly flammable.

Concrete homes have better fire resistance because this material is highly resistant to fire and heat. But any paint, siding, windows, roofing, or other materials on a concrete home may still be flammable. Never try to stay in a building with a large, active fire or a wildfire approaching because this can still be deadly. However, building a fireproof home with concrete can better protect the structure against total destruction.

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.

It’s technically possible in some areas to install your own fire suppression system, but it’s usually not a good idea. Your system must conform to the fire code in your area and will need to pass a rigorous inspection before being activated and deemed safe. Installing a fire suppression system is a complicated job, and making mistakes as a DIYer is likely. Those mistakes can cause you to fail your inspection, which means you’ll have to spend more time fixing the issues or money to have a certified plumber do the work for you. It’s best to hire a professional.
