"I had a leaking skylight in my bathroom for quite some time that I finally got around to replacing. Jose came to take a look, I received a quote that same day and a week later a replacement skylight was installed. He was prompt, on-time, and very knowledgable. His work was excellent, you could not even tell that a skylight had been replaced. I highly recommend him."

"Samper was very professional. He kept us in the loop and explained to us every possible option. The new chimney came out amazing and the skylight looks brand new. I appreciate his consent communication and his willingness to work with us. We would definitely hire him again for future projects."

"Riza was the only person to actually go up on the roof during our consultation to confirm what the problem was. The work was done properly and my issue is now resolved. Would hire again."

"Perez-Diaz took off my old roof, gutters, and 4 skylights. All new was back on in just a couple days. William shows up when he says he will (or communicates as with rain days). He and his crew are respectful and courteous. He did have sheathing work no one knew was there until the old roof came off, but I was charged for re-sheathing as per contract and as far as I am concerned he was more than fair about it. Even some repair work we discussed with the estimate was done to a standard better than I thought we agreed to. I highly recommend him."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.

Local window and door specialists, glaziers, and roofers should all install skylights. You can also do an internet search to find companies that specialize in skylight installation near you. Keep in mind that skylight installation is very complex and can be dangerous without the proper tools and safety precautions, so we don’t recommend this as a DIY project.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.
