"Matt did a great job with our house. There was some bad weather that washed some of the paint off after they left. Matt and his crew came back out over the next few days and repainted everything and finished our home. Our home looks bigger, cleaner, and brand new. The bid that was proposed was right on with my budget. I would recommend Southern Colorado Painting to anyone looking for any type of paint project."

"After getting multiple quotes and doing a few interviews with different local painters here in Colorado Springs, my husband and I were sold on what Danny and his right-hand-man, Chuck, could offer. We hired them to paint our brown ceilings white (just over 3,500 sq ft worth) along with painting our brown Knotty Pine cabinets two toned (white and blue/grey). Amidst having to work around movers coming in/out of the house, carpets getting redone, and many other interruptions, these two gentlemen got the job done when they said they would, were reliable, great communicators, and above all, truly cared about not only the quality they delivered, but about us a clients. He went above and beyond to ensure we were getting exactly what we wanted. We thoroughly enjoyed working with them and will absolutely be using them again in the future to paint the trim inside and outside our home. Couldn't recommend Danny Denman Painting any more!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Preparation includes cleaning the fence, sanding any rough areas, applying a primer if necessary, and ensuring dry weather for application.

The best finish for wrought iron railings is either a semi-gloss or a gloss sheen, as each offers good durability against rain, wind, heat, cold, and snow.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.
