"This guy is AWESOME. We got Jay in for a fairly simple plumbing job in the new bathroom, then we decided we wanted to get some new toilets, Jay said yes of course and it was done I also asked for new gas line no problem he said fixed. Then we asked him to fit three new vanities which she did efficiently and finally we asked the impossible about the new shower extending it out and he found a way. What can I say he did everything asked at a price that was very good he was an awful lot cheaper than the big boys because he doesn't have the overheads but I guarantee this guy gives you everything you ask for with a smile thank you Jay we will be using you again"

"The toilets in one of our condominium rental units were backing up. We assumed that the line needed to be snaked. We calledAfford-A-Rooter and AJ came out to help us. After noting everything else was draining fine he realized it was the toilets themselves. Apparently, toilets build up a calcium deposit that can actually block flushing.. He told me what the problem was, and told me the best solution would be new toilets. It would have been as expensive to auger the crank toilets. He told me how much it would be if he were to do it, and, since I have replaced toilets in the past I told him I could do it myself. He agreed that would be the quickest and cheapest solution. He did not charge me anything for the service call. I appreciated his honesty and we will definitely use this company again."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it’s better to repair a toilet than to replace it. Fixing issues like low water levels, running water, and flushing problems is less expensive than buying a new unit. Start thinking about replacement if the toilet is cracked, using excessive amounts of water, or is over 15 years old. Newer models are more water-efficient and clog less often than older models.

If you notice water leaking down the side of the bowl or tank and you don’t notice any cracks in the porcelain, the odds are that it’s condensation. If you notice water around the base of the toilet, this points to a leak. Check for loose bolts. A sewage odor may also indicate a broken toilet flange.

Even though they’re modern-looking, easier to clean, can be hung at any height, and help save space compared to traditional toilets, wall-hung toilets have some downsides. They’re more expensive than standard toilets, sometimes by a few hundred dollars. They’re also difficult to install and may require major plumbing work to reroute the drain if the previous toilet was a floor-mount model.

This tight fit can make repairs more difficult. You’ll also have to consider where you can hang them and weight limit restrictions, so they may not be the best fit for every home.

Completing a full standard bathroom remodel offers the best value, with an average return on investment (ROI) of 70%. However, you don't need a full remodel to make an impact. To maximize value, focus on key components like flooring, the tub and shower, vanity, and cabinets. High-value upgrades include installing a walk-in shower, resurfacing a tub, retiling, or expanding the shower. For more budget-friendly options that still increase value, consider repainting with a light, neutral color, or updating the mirror and light fixtures. It's also crucial to address any necessary repairs, such as leaks, mold, or cracked tiles, as buyers will notice these issues. Avoid flashy upgrades like bathtub jets or steam showers, which don't add as much value.

Basement toilets don’t always need a pump. However, it is the most common setup because plumbing systems use gravity to move waste away from the home. Basement toilets often sit below the home’s main sewage system, and installing a sewage ejector pump pushes the wastewater and sewage up to the main sewer line. Alternatively, you can use an upflush or macerator toilet that breaks down the waste and pushes it straight to the main sewer line rather than via a sewer line from the bathroom.
